Programming/Linking new PCM in 2014 Holden Cruze

So car decided to start throwing up some DTCS of course after warranty expired.... so figured I had nothing to loose having a look myself and thankfully it drove home fine then wouldn't start the next morning so it was at home just cranked for a few seconds then stopped and DTC's

end result is I found this on the pcm plug....

if you look closely enough left hand side bottom row third pin in is missing, and right hand side of the row above is missing second one in from the end....

turns out the one on the right hand side is the class 2 serial data so she didn't want to do a thing after I disturbed that...

so I stick pins in the plug and put it back together and it all worked, albeit stopped if I wiggled the plug, so I went all dodgy like and soldered pins onto what was left of the old pins...... thus far has been working for a few weeks with no issues since

knowing this is only a matter of time till failure, I have made a few purchases in the hope of resolving the issue more long term....

now the problem is I can't seem to get the mdi and gds to even talk to the car ......

interested to know if anyone has used any of these things and know what I need to do to make it work, hoping to have the whole weekend to be able to sort it out if needs be, but kinda don't want to unplug the pcm till I know I can do it as I will risk breaking off the soldered pins, and let me tell you it was a pain in the ass to get them soldered on in the first place!

I also have HPT with licencing for the current PCM and if needs by I'm willing to licence a new PCM assuming i can do what i need with either it or the MDI/GDS option.

2014 ? How long is warranty ? I woulda thought 3 years minimum, I assume you tried to get them to cough up as that shouldn't happen that quick ? Trade it in !

Thats true about warranty, you'd hope 3 years...

But its not just GDS, there is ac delco tech connect subscriptions which should give the same options the dealers have. And you have a replacement 2nd hand pcm. So it comes down to what is required to exchange pcms? Is there an unlinking and relinking process? On this model, is it just as much as setting the vin to match in the pcm? And of course which GM tools are needed to complete the process?

Im hedging a bet that not many of us have played with 2014 cruize, but hopefully someone might have some experience and be able to point you towards the right process or tools.

Do you have a service number for the pcm?

They are 3 years but now with evidence of "fixing" no dealer would go through a warranty process for it.

Hey, I've done a fair bit of this, replaced a PCM in a 2013 turbo petrol last week.. The wreckers next door to my shop buy damaged Cruzes and get me to get them going, I've had two in the last couple of months with knackered PCM's, Im assuming shock damage from impact some how, never bothered to pull apart and look. Order new PCM, replace as per TIS instructions.

They did have one next door that someone had put a different PCM into, wouldn't go due to security mis-match, the fix (because I could unlink the fitted PCM) was to replace the PCM with new. Im assuming someone had a knackered PCM, unlinked the one from this car and fitted the dud..

As for your MDI, is it genuine? I use a different pass thru.

Which tool from tis does the unlink/relink? Can you unlink the spare without the car it came from? I dont think Holden202T has tis access yet to read the docs and is trying to sus out if what he has will work. MDI is a clone.

Thinking TIS will be needed no matter what to pump in the correct calibration for the ECU, if thats brand new?

And being 2014, Im thinking it will be TIS that will have the linking/unlinking options available. Again, if brand new it shouldnt be linked, just have to let the scantool do its thing

Also.. just a word of warning.. from experience.. GM is banning the clones in a spectacular way.

Pretty sure GDS2 is more diagnostics only.

This thread is for a 2010 model but I suspect its the same family and process. It says you can unlink a second hand ecu in the new car by directly entering the donor car vin. And it seems SPS is the tool to link/unlink rather than GDS2.

ok clarification.....

its a 2013 model but the driveline is MY14 .....

its 3yr or 100,000kms, and of course its just over that 111,000kms.

the PCM is according to the ebay description a brand new unit, service # 12642927 on both old and new PCM's (figured this is the part i need to match the rest can be programmed)

Antus is right, i haven't gone to the point of getting any subscription yet as i want to make sure i am doing the right thing and only doing it once.
