27C010 in VS 16210672 memcal socket

Post by antus »

As my ecu came with no memcal, im trying to fit a random 27c010 chip in the socket.

Heres the pics of what Im trying to do. The plug is the good half of an '808 memcal socket that did some damage too on the opposite end making it a good candidate.

I think I have the chip pin 1 a the correct end of the socket?

Hows my positioning of the chip? How far do I need to move it and which way?

I thought i needed to shave another row of pins of the plug, but its the camera bending the corner of the pic slightly. Bugger all room between that first pin and the end! Is it just a locator? In which case I need to be less carefull :)

Yeah thats a good idea. I was thinking nvram but thats a lot harder to get and more expensive. Might see if I can pick up an eeprom today. That ancient 27c010 is a bit of an unknown anyway

well if an nvram works on it, yeah it might cost more ... but nothing quite matches the ability of realtime hey :)

i bought some eeproms a while ago and they were actually too long for the 808 socket so im hoping they fit this thing, then i've got a use for one!

I bought a pair of 29C010's for a VT from futurelec for 8 bucks each.

they always seem to have the strange chips I want.

Just be careful with futurlec guys, the products they sell are not always the genuine article...they are cheap for a reason! They are good with returns that dont work but its a pain.

If you can post some pics of the VS memcal an NVRAM board to suit could be available shortly :) Need to see how the pins of the PCM socket line up with the memcal EPROM.
