Thanks for the pics. First of all I made up an adapter and decided to try it with my wilems plcc32 adaptor and a 29c010 I picked up today. Looked like this but i never found out if the pcm could read it as i had trouble flashing it with the old p166 laptop.

So then I just burnt BSTK.bin to a 27c010 and ended up with this. Have no way to test it yet, will come back to that.

looks good for a first attempt at a homemade memcal couldnt do any better myself.might not want to take it in and out too much but no need with the socket you should of bought a ZIF socket while you were there.

Yeah, its the not the best build, but wont be under much mechanical stress as it will just live on the desk as a reference codebase. I hope to get some nvram setup for development work. Will make me a 1 wire aldl adapter next and take it from there.

well i sorta made something similar, its designed to allow me to re-program vs memcals without having to remove it from the memcal case ...

be warned, do not attempt this at home

man theres solder all over that board what were you doing dripping it on from a great height LOL.looks like we are all in the dodgy adapter club (hunts for dodgy memcal adapter for pics)LOL.found it lets see who takes the cake.mine is fully DIY in the whole sense of the matter plug off a hardrive pins off an old graphics card and a few resistor legs for good measure LOL works but is only for emergency use for VS memcals when needed.new adapter in production.

yeah at first i was trying not to get that solder on the outsides of the board then i decided who cares it doesn't matter ... plus i also had to have the soldering iron parallel to the board just to get in under the black stuff on the pins!!

i have to say you are definately winning the dodgy competition at the moment .... although i think mine is still not working properly so i may be ahead in that area :)

you definatly have the better pic must have a good camera i used my chinese phone ok for long distance, closeup is bad as you can tell.im just buying a second strip header like for plugging the memcal onto the sram board will work sweet as with zero soldering

I made one of these as a header to the Later model Holdens. Allows me to plug a eprom emulator straight into the PCM. I have seen some low profile Zif sockets getting around so that option might be worth exploring. You do need a pined header though for pluging into the memcal to read and write when testing things out.

If you tried harder I'm sure you could do better....LOL

hi, what you do is get a peice of vero board approx 2 cm wide by 43 to 45 mm long.
make sure u cut the board with the tracks as shown.
then with a sharp nife or dremel etc.... cut a line down between the two rows of holes as shown in the rough sketch.

then get a peice of 2 way dil header strip . ....(((((just about exactly the same header you get on a ide computer cable, but these sort u will be using have a pcb pins to solder. i think jaycar or altronics have them.))))))))

cut the header strip so that there are 16 rows of holes , then put the header strip from the component side/fiberglass side of the veroboard rectangle , so that each row of pins are on each side of the cut you just made.

then get a 32 pin ic socket ( NOT the machine pin type !!!) then bend each row of pins on the socket right angles as shown. then solder this on the copper track side so that each ic socket pin lines up with aheader pin solder connection.

the board might be a few tracks longer than the actual eprom , but that doesnt matter , just start right at one end.

whn you put the memcal holder in DO NOT comer the first pin that is by itself , put the socket in right behind this first pin, do not worry if there are any pins showing at the other end of the memcal after the holder is pushed into place. . if i get enough interest i`ll put up clearer step by step info
