Gday everyone,
Im new to this delco tuning stuff (have only started reading up about it in the last couple of weeks).
I recently bought 5 Delco 808 ECU's off ebay with the intention of using one for a VN V8 conversion into my HZ tonner.
2 came without memcals.
1 has had the stickers removed from the ECU but the memcal has "VN GPA" (Vn Group A?) written on it.
1 has nothing written on the memcal but "v8 m", "36 m" and "v 760" written on the ECU.
The one im very interested in is one that has a metal part of the ECU cover cut out to fit in a circuit board where the memcal would normally go. (see attached pic).
There is a sticker on the ECU stating the following:
DELCO ELECTRONICS DIV. G.M.C"
PROGRAM: MY 86 EFI-4 PILOT
SYSTEM NO. DKK069718
MODEL NO. DK069717
SOFTWARE: N/A
CAL PROM: BLANK
It also has a small silver and red plate attached to the bottom with:
MADE IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
DELCO ELECTRONICS DIVISION G.M.C. ENGINEERING SAMPLE
DK069717 MODEL NUMBER
195** SERIAL NUMBER
Someone has hand writtren "JD-F (a) 1.8 TBI" on the sticker and then crossed it out.
What is the go with this ecu? Was it used by GMH for the JD-F camira development or something?
Also what is involved in finding out what tune the other 2 memcals have?
Much thanks in advance
EDIT Holden202T: Resized your pic.
Delco 808 Identification
Re: Delco 808 Identification
I don't know much about it but it does appear to have the additional UART chip (U2) like a '305 or '082

Re: Delco 808 Identification
I'd say you're spot on - it looks like an R&D memcal, and 86/1.8 TBI sounds like the Camira.pman92 wrote:

The eprom is socketed, and the netres config is via discrete reconfigurable resistors rather than the chips used in production memcals.
It'd be very interesting to see a schematic of that board
Re: Delco 808 Identification
can you imagine tuning the limp home mode resistors with a wideband and a packetof resistors in your pocket

Re: Delco 808 Identification
haha, proper old school tuning. A wideband would have been huge (and crazy expensive) back in those days.
Great score pman92

Re: Delco 808 Identification
as vk_3800 pciked that silver chip just below the upside down G.M.C is the high speed comms uart which is missing on the regular '808s.

Re: Delco 808 Identification
The UART chip (below the GMC in pic, U2) is definitely missing on the other 808's ive got.
Does that mean if i used this ECU with a standard VN V8 memcal i could have 8192 baud diagnostics?
Ive attached a photo of both sides of the circuit board in good enough detail to make out the circuits if its of any interest.

Re: Delco 808 Identification
I posted photo's and a circuit diagram for a development memcal quite a while ago. Will have to try to find it.
From memory, the extra chip was the knock filter. You can see extra resistors and capacitors on the board that are used to tune the filter, that are not included in a typical netres.
Obviously, the Camira's never used the knock sensing, however, all of the development boards had it.
Interesting eBay score from a historical point of view.

Not with factory code, but with $12p yes - and a factory VNV8 calibration is included in the download. (the memcal needs code with support for the high speed comms on it). Of course you'd need an aldl data interface of some type still.pman92 wrote:Does that mean if i used this ECU with a standard VN V8 memcal i could have 8192 baud diagnostics?
