Yes, MDI2 is different hardware, yours is an MDI. It sounds like its working OK but you need SPS for the linking stuff.

The MDI2 came out in 2016 and is still pretty rare. Its supposedly faster at programming but I cant see anything that it can do that the regular MDI cant at a glance.

So the MDI was failing because of the wifi card.... But Holden202T removed it and then everything started working over USB.

I'll also post up this screenie becuase it shows some of the options discussed in this thread. So many controllers in these cars! I also saw how you would enter a donor cars vin on the prior screen then select "prepare control module for removal" here. In this case there was none of that required because the spare was in new condition and the highlighted options were used.

Heres a close up of the plug, you can see where I butchered it to solder the pins on to get it working again for a few weeks!

And below is some internal pics of whats inside an E83 PCM. You cant remove the PCB from the case without un-soldering the two sets of pins for each of the loom connectors..... so its probably fixable, but for $70 for a new one its really a lot of work.
I've left these two pictures pretty high quality so click on them for full size.

If anyone is interested in using this PCM for any testing let me know i'd be happy to donate it to the cause.
