Iac

Post by jezza351 »

Hey guys , just a general question regarding the iac on my vr v8, when put into diagnostic mode to set timing should the iac fully extend to close off idle air circuit or fully retract to open up circuit ?

Mine currently fully retracts and clicks away.

In diagnostic mode with engine running it will maintain idle from memory.
But in diagnostic mode with engine off (key on though) it will continuously drive it out.

OK I must have an issue as key on not running the iac is pulling in all the way , maybe the iac aeroflow supplied isn't compatible with the pcm. Will try a genuine one and see what happens

When you turn the key off does it extend at all? Post your bin up. There's tables for different positions for key on and cranking etc.

Completely in? Retracted? Should be extending in a engine off scenario with diagnostic enabled.

Yeah completely in and stays like that even after key off , take it out of diagnostic mode and hit the accessories it comes out about half way .

Yeah engine light flashing, thermo going. It was idling half decent on first start up , then when I did base timing it's not idled well since . The iac must have been in an OK spot to start with and putting it into diagnostic mode made it retract all the way in and now it thinks 0 steps is about 3/4 out . That would be why it's going to 0 but idles high . Bloody thing !

Its not working right. Put in diagnostic with engine off should close the IAC track, extend the solenoid.
