VS L67 conversion

Post by VCL67 »

Hi all. Ive had a look through heaps of posts and the FAQs and am not sure if I'm posting in the right spot but here goes. My oldest son has a VC commodore to which he has decided he is going to fit ("thanks dad") an L67 engine out of a VS statesman. Just to make it more interesting (more work for Dad) he has got a T5 to fit in it as well. I'm wondering if i can get some help regarding the electrical side of things. Apparently the ecotech is a little harder to use than the earlier models as it uses a BCM. Is it necessary to use the VS setup or can it be changed to earlier model stuff? If using VS, the BCM can be done away with??? Also being an L67 it is factory auto, with a T5 fitted will it work ok or need other things doing?? Thanks in advance.

Can use the vs pcm without a bcm and with the t5 for sure. Usual wiring mods to make it a stand alone harness. Small pcm mod for the t5 and the memcal re burnt for no bcm and t5.

So sounds pretty straight forward then. What needs to be done to the pcm?

the mod to the ecu is for the speed sensor auto and manual ecu have different hardware on the main board you can get around all this with a signal modifier (inline box) but only a problem as far as i know with a getrag box t5 should be ok. if i were doing the conversion i would use an 808 ecu and 12p to do away with the maf sensor and it has very good support tune wise.

808 is a VN Commodore ECU. Shortened from 1227808 which is the OEM part number.
12P is the program on the memcal. It's custom code written by the member from here VL400. It's a re written VR Commodore code.

Ah, ok. So will a VN ecu be ok with the supercharged engine?

Bear in mind running the L67 on a 808 is very possible. But 12P won't take a MAF sensor.
Will need a full tune afterwards and more wiring mods will be needed.

Cheapest and easiest way is to re work what you have. L67 code is very capable of any future mods.

PCM mod is to take the hall effect signal from the T5. You can spend the money a run a signal converter which will also allow for any correction from diff gear changes wheel size etc.
I've used the Dakota digital SGI5 a couple times it's a good unit. Or fit a T56 6 speed it already runs a reluctor sigal and would handle any decent torque better than a T5.

Ok, so my son is doing up this car to turn it into a daily driver. It will only be a stocker, so what ever will be simplest, realiable and probably economical to do, will be best i guess. So if we use the VS stuff we have, we need to get a gadget to wire in for the T5 and a new memcal to get rid of the BCM? Sound right? And a mod to the PCM. Who or where could we get that done?
