82c Thermostat Fan settings

Post by L67PSI »

Hi,

I've installed a 82c thermostat in L67 and want to change fan settings to suit, current settings are:

Low Speed Fan On = 99.50
Low Speed Fan Off = 98.00

High Speed Fan On = 101.00
High Speed Fan Off = 99.50

Thanks

what exactly are you asking here ? you want someone to make a tune with these settings changed or are you after suggestions on what to change them to ?

Yep clear as mud but people get on forums and don't give the full story so guesswork is required to figure out what is meant.

I, personally, wouldn't change it. When the car is moving the airflow through the radiator should be enough to keep it at temp.

I'm looking for suggestions on what to change them too. I can make the changes via TunerPro.

Thanks

Sorry if question was vague. I did say in 1st line - change fan settings to suit.

You can change them to whatever you want as long as the off temp is above the thermostat temp.
If you don't want it sitting at 100 degrees at the lights then bring them down a bit, but there should be no issue with it sitting at 100 degrees, unless the fans can't keep up or the radiators blocked or something.

If you set the off temp below the temperature the thermostat closes, the fans will come on, the coolant temp will begin to drop as the fans runs and coolant flows through radiator. Then you will reach thermostat temp and it will close. Now there is no coolant flow through radiator. Fans keep running as you are still above off temp. Coolant temp no longer keeps dropping as thermostat closed. Fans stay on indefinitely until you switch car off and let it cool down over time.

The standard L67 thermostat is 91 degrees.

With the standard thermostat being 91 degrees the differences are
Low Speed Fan On = 99.50 - 91 = 8.5
Low Speed Fan Off = 98.00 - 91 = 7

High Speed Fan On = 101.00 - 91 = 10
High Speed Fan Off = 99.50 - 91 = 8.5

So if you drop the thermostat to 82 degrees and add the difference you will get
Low Speed Fan On = 82 + 8.5 = 90.5
Low Speed Fan Off = 82 + 7 = 89

High Speed Fan On = 82 + 10 = 92
High Speed Fan Off = 82 + 8.5 = 92.5

Again I wouldn't really bother unless there is an overheating issue but the differences have now been worked out for you to use if you wish.

The whole point of fitting a cooler thermostat is to make the engine run cooler.

I have mine set low fan on 88 off 84, high speed fan on 90 off 86.

If you set the on/off temps really close together than the fans will cycle on/off constantly.

I'm fairly certain the stock tune would be low speed on 104 off 99.5 and high speed on 107, off 103

Thanks for the figures. I didn't think of that method.
