Cruise Control?

Post by Skullator1 »

Hi All, Not sure if anyone can help but i'm trying to use a genuine Holden Cruise control module in my HJ UTE, I have wired it with all the correct inputs as far as i can see but with no success, i have the holden diagnostic procedure and all seems ok except the speed sensor input, original was a inductive pick up that should produce between 0v - 10v, ,with a T5 i have a hall effect that operates between 0v - 5v, the VN H.E. speed sensor used to operate at 12v but as the speed only needed 5v input that is all i fed it with. I would have though that it would detect any pulse?

Good news
Cruise is working a treat
Led brake light bulbs were the culprit
So i now have genuine cruise module operating with n/o push button switches
All up cost around $65.00

How are led brake light bulbs a problem with cruise control?

The system does a resistance check to ensure that the cruise control circuit disables when brakes applied. Resistance across LEDs is not tot the same as a normal globe.
Some cruise controls won't activate until brake has been pressed once. Mates ford cruis wouldn't work, turns out his globes were blown, new globes fitted and cruise all good.

I thought the cruise used a separate switch on the pedal, or are we talking about something newer than a VR/VS cruise module ?

Cruise uses the factory brake light switch but it also has its own as a fail safe. Both are required to be operational

I don't know about VT onward unit but I know for sure from VN to VP the cruise control uses 2 of its own dedicated switches and the brake light has nothing to do with it. So for example a VP would have 3 switches on the pedal assembly.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

VS uses a dedicated switch and the standard switch, so 2 switches total.
