VR V6 Not starting

Post by L67PSI »

Hi all,

Working on a VR V6 that wont start. I suspect its the CAS??

Anyway I have spark, fitted new fuel pump and have 40 psi fuel pressure. As old in-tank pump died.

With starter spray into the throttle it fires up for a few seconds then dies.

I put noid light onto injector harness #1 and has no pulse = no flashing of light.

Can't see any DTC, but not sure a bad CAS would log a fault??

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

If you have spark then the cas is working.. is it sparking all plugs though?
The CAS signal is uesd by DIS module to control ignition in bypass mode and the signal is passed from the DIS unit through to the PCM.

The connector at the DFI/DIS module is a common culprit of that, try leaning on the plug while someone cranks it.
According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

Yes, all 6 have spark.

Tried that this morning, but made no difference.

Swapped over coil packs & DFI module from a working vehicle, still no go.

Maybe a broken wire in the harness then???

What else can I check for?

Thanks

If your getting spark the dfi is working can you log and see if the ecu is actually receiving an rpm signal from the dfi module as vlad said dfi is in bypass mode during cranking and doesn't need the ecu at all to create spark but you said you have no injector pulse which is
Leaning towards no rpm signal to the ecu so its it going to fire the injectors at all

If there is no codes i'd be looking at the injector wiring on the output side of the computer. Ive heard of hard to find problems in the loom causing similar and i guess it could also be a short in an injector preventing others from firing.

Back to basics. Engines need 3 things to run, Air, Fuel, and Spark.
You have spark because it will start on ether spray. So you can discount the vast majority, not all, of the ignition side as a potential problem. Will it continue to run if you keep spraying ether into the intake?
You say you have 40 pounds fuel pressure, that's great but are the injectors opening? Apparently not cause you say the noid light didn't work. Check your oil pressure switch wiring because it has a safety feature that will stop the fuel side if there is no oil pressure. Duel fuel vehicles can run on LPG through a vapor mixer yet wont start on petrol because of the oil pressure safety feature.
