Putting a 304 T5 in a VS S2

Post by philkensebben »

Hi all,

I've spent 20 pages of reading but haven't quite found the exact answer I need, apologies if I've missed it.

Basically, I have a VS S2 Executive that was a V6 auto but has had it's engine, trans, associated looms and ECU taken out of it (so basically clean slate).

I am planning on putting a 304 in it with a T5 manual, and being that there's nothing in there now I'm pretty open to what I can do.

I've read through a bunch of different doco's, but is anybody able to really basically provide the ECU type that I would need to get, along with any gotcha's to watch out for? I've got all the wiring diagrams etc that I need to re-wire the car if need be, I am also planning on putting a Level 3 dash in. I'm happy to get any model of ECU that would work if it involves a bit of tune changing etc to make it work.

Cheers!

Get a VR VS V8 manual ECU. Get a VS V8 wiring loom.
Also the extra connector where the t bar is now. It bridges the starter and sorts the reverse light wiring through what was the power shift button wiring.

Level 3 dash. Write ups all over the net on making a patch loom just as HSV did to get the extra functions.

Make sure the loom is series one or two not three (maf type)
According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

I believe you will also need a V8 K-Frame as it is different to the V6 K-Frame.

Already have my big list of mechanical items I need to change over (including K-Frame) but just have been a bit lost on the electrical side. Already even have the manual centre console cover! :D :D

The hardest part seems to be sourcing the looms+ecu, especially in manual, and even more so without somebody attempting to slog $500 it.

Absolutely, are there any guides on converting an auto-loom to a manual loom and/or ECU? Keen to save money where I can, and being that I'm handy with a soldering iron I figure it's a good idea :D

No worries will do then!

So just to confirm, manual ECU is required but it's possible to get away with an auto loom with some cut and shut done on it.

Not even cut and shut really. Get a VN engine loom use those ECU connectors, add in the speed sender connector from that loom too.
