ECU Identification Help

Post by littlesprout »

[Hi, need help identifying an ecu.

The guy claims it's from a VS SS auto but it looks to me that it may be a manual ecu?

I could very easily be wrong!

Any help would be great

The Memcal Code looks like BWFU. If so, then its to suit a 5.0L VS Series II Auto.

I've asked for the service number of the ecu and the sticker is long gone apparently.

The memcal has BWFU 3310 on it according to the guy...

Don't know it all seems a bit messy!

Can anyone tell me what 082 ecus came in?

Thanks again everyone

BWFU, $83 5.0L Auto 16176424 Series II, From 6/1996

Like delcowizid said, its the right memcal in the wrong computer. The '424 has a longer case. That memcal, assuming it has not been modified to be running manual software, wont run in that computer and it'll probably start and run really badly because it'll be in limp-home mode.

There is a picture of a '424 computer here so you can see how the case is longer, though this one is running a different 3rd party adapter. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5442#p81961

Both computers have the same socket for the memcal, but the software is incompatible and this is a mismatch.
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

Thanks antus

I was confident it wasn't a 424 that is why I posted here to find out what it really is.

Im trying to put a VQ 5ltr and mechanical auto into a VS so I was mainly interested in the loom but if the guy claims a ecu is for a VS 5ltr auto and it isn't Im not going to take the chance on the loom being correct either.

Thanks everyone! excellent help again
