Changing from auto to manual

Post by BARBS »

Complete noob question but here goes
I am running a 424 with 4l60e and going to change to a "manual" transmission.

1. Am I going to need to get an 16183082 / 16206305 ECU?
2. Can I still use the NVram from my 424?
3. Other than removing the trans wiring does the remaining engine wiring stay the same?

Thanks in advance guys.

You can run the 424 with manual but will probably have to bump up the throttle blade base idle just to help catch it when coming to a stop and might be missing some of the decal fuel cut off stuff also are you using a speed sensor as the 424 uses a reluctor type speed sensor if your changing to say a t5 that uses a Hall effect the 424 won’t be able to use it may have to find a reluctor type shouldn’t be to hard though as for wiring just remove all the auto trans stuff or you can just tie it up out of the way depending on if your keeping it manual or not

Depends what kind of manual getrag or t56 use the same style of reluctor vss as vr auto so no ecu swap would be needed .if using t5 or anything else with a hall effect style sensor a swap to vn wiring and ecu would be the go or repin the auto loom to suit vn ecu. your nvram will swap right in with just a change in software to ose12p instead of 11p.

424 runs manual fine. Just need to disable a heap of auto related MALF codes so it doesn't complain.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Injector wiring is the same for 808 vs 424

I run a 424 in the speedway car with a getrag box with speed input no problem
According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

Thanks mate. I might change to an 808. I like the additional flex outputs etc.

Errrr, my head is telling me that they ran a cable speedo and the speed sensor is actually located in the back of the gauge cluster. IE the cluster is the one that sense the speed sensor output not the gearbox. From memory it has 4 pulses per revolution but the gear drive is the one the corrects the speedo.

The unfortunate thing is I cannot be 100% sure as I have only ever worked on manual vl's so have not actually seen a auto might need to try to find one and have a look myself.

cheers
