Please help with diagnosing 304 missing / over-fueling

Post by SirGollum »

Hi Guys,

I generally try and work things out myself, and cant really afford a mobile mechanic at the moment, so really hoping that some of you generous lads wouldnt mind helping me diagnose a problem im having with my 304.

Im pretty much at wits end with the thing, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ive recorded a couple of short logs shown at the bottom.

Specs
304 (Pretty much stock) (Transplanted into GQ Patrol)
Crane 276 Cam,
anti-pump lifters
Crane roller rockers
Bt1 valve springs
Delco ECU with 12p
LPG Gas Injection.

What happened
Was running normal, went to fill up with petrol / lpg before a trip away, on the way home, running on LPG, I heard a 'pop' and then it started running very badly, I limped it home. It ran badly on LPG and Petrol.
After a day playing around with it, I swapped ecu's which didnt really help, but did show that my NVRAM was caput, but has now been replaced.

What ive tried
No codes from ECU
Removed LPG Injectors
Swapped Igniter
Swapped ECU
Tried standard tune
Swapped Dizzy
Checked Dizzy Cap / Rotor
Checked Compression (all around 140)
Checked Injectors (Took them out and looked for leaks while pump primed, and then checked spray pattern)
Checked Leads
Checked Plugs (Iridiums, were sooty from running rich, otherwise ok)
vacuum lines look ok.

Heres a couple of logs of it running (ish)

Heres a video of it.

Any ideas ? Happy to try anything at this point! Or if anyone is near Ipswich, QLD, I would MORE than happy bribe anyone with beer if they would even come and listen to it!

Pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator and see if fuel comes out when you prime it
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem

I haven’t looked at the log, but if you heard a “pop” I’d be looking for a vacuum leak.
Check all hoses are fine and not split/perished and connected correctly.
When it’s running try and spray some wd40 or similar around intake manifold and hoses, listen for change of engine noise.

What about the MAP sensor and the vacuum line running to it? Maybe remove the hose and make sure its not plugged with moisture, particularly if its mounted lower than the vacuum tie in point.
Also by igniter do you mean the coil or the ignition module?

Thanks for the suggestion mate, I checked / replaced all the vacuum lines etc this afternoon, and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. :(

Thanks for the suggestion mate, if there was vacuum issues, wouldnt the map be reading really low ? even at its terrible idle, TP5 is showing a MAP reading of 170-180

Sorry, yes, I meant ignition module.

The log shows a 4 cylinder memcal is on the header or the jumper is on 4 cylinder

And if you are reading 170-180kpa map you must be using the 2 bar adx not a 1 bar one mines shows around 80kpa struggling to idle and goes back to normal ish 50kpa with revs up s2nd me a copy of your tune cause the injector ms value and duty cycle don't really match up with each other its injecting for a very long time for idle

weird! the Jumpers are correct, so must be the tune somehow, Ill download it directly from the ecu in the morning and upload.
