95 Hilux ecotec swapped - 808ecu

If it’s running a kick down cable like he mentioned above it has to be a T700 I believe.

Thanks for everyones comments so far i finally found a moment to go out and take a better look, so the gearbox is super hard to see as it has a bunch of armor plates put up but it's a t700 box only markings i could find were MD8 and a quick googles shows it's the stamp t700's have.. also ive attached some pictures of the ECU so hopefully it is the 808 if any other pictures are required im more than happy to go snap a few extras
air temp sensor is fitted to the factory position inside the airbox ( has the ecotec airbox fitted but soon will be stainless box )

yeah, 808 and I can see the TV cable so it must be a 4L60

The temp sensor is like this and must be drilled and tapped into one of the runners near the port. M14 thread if I recall.

If you can't do the runner, then the upper plenum is the next best spot.


Also the coolant temp sensor needs to be a bosch type with the same plug as the injectors use, not the ecotec one. Bosch one is M12 thread. pic is the one with blue plug.

Cheers for the reply makes some things a lot more simpler with the right info! so ive taken a quick look and it seems the temp sensor used ( coolant ) is the one from the old engine and it has a drilled out bung and the intake temp is the VS style one still inside the airbox

yeah, good idea to change that air temp sensor, it could well be a totally different range of resistance compared to the VN-VR style one, giving the ECU a false reading.

have a good read through the link i posted to my torana ecotec conversion .... it covers all the mods you need.

also can you supply a closer pic of the throttle body, im interested to see if the kick down cable is adjusted properly.

the sensors you have are probably the majority of the reason its getting bad fuel economy, get the right sensors on it for the 808 computer (also need knock sensor to suit or disable it in the tune) and then get the $12P ecotec tune that has been mentioned, it will be your best starting point.

hey mate 100% the cable isn't adjusted correctly as 2-3 has the engine sounding like it over revs before it shifts i did suspect that the cable was wrong and spent a bit of time last night hunting how to adjust it correctly with no real help other then brackets used on a t700r4 and carbys lol

ill grab a picture tomorrow for you and ill also try and track down the correct sensors the water temp has a single wire from the harness so im now wondering if perhaps they have taken any wires out of the harness.. if thats the case it's going to make this whole process a WHOLE lot harder.. but cheers man ill take a look at the link now and post some pictures tomorrow of it for you

one thing i can tell you, there is a metal part on the cable, if you push that in then you can pull the cable right out (away from throttle body) then you turn the throttle body till 100% and it should pull the cable back through the adjuster to get it right ... if your bracketry doesnt have the lengths right though it may never work.

here is a better photo so if im in the RPM it shifts okay but if im just cruising low ish rpm it does a rev up between shifts and sounds like it's slipping..

It could be, every single 4L60 I had with around 200k slipped or stopped shifting. They started doing the same before slipping to the point of no drive at all.

Luckily they aren't too expensive to get reco'd and beefed up and shift kitted. They are cheaper to do that than it is to reco a manual box with similar mods.
