Ecotec cold starting issue on E85
Ecotec cold starting issue on E85
Gday,
I have a VY with an ecotec that runs on E85, the car runs extremely well on the fuel however ive been having trouble getting it started when its stone cold. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which tables i should modify? (Cranking pulse width vs coolant temp? Spark advance?)
Any suggestions appreciated, cheers

it's it starts firing ok then you try backing out of the open loop table.

Re: Ecotec cold starting issue on E85
Does it start fine at normal operating temp?
Re: Ecotec cold starting issue on E85
Most times it takes a shit ton of prime pulse and then normal cranking pulse on e85. it likes rich then lean/normal.
Re: Ecotec cold starting issue on E85
So it cranks for ages when completely cold, however once it has started then turned off then back on within say...4 hours give or take, it usually starts quite easily.

You could try adding a few ms on the Cranking PW Vs Engine Coolant Temp and see what it does. It's probably going to take a bit of experimenting.

Can prime pulse be altered through tunerpro?

Re: Ecotec cold starting issue on E85
i have found that E85 wants a lot more fuel when cold, one way you can test if this is the issue, instead of just holding the key on, try and key on and crank for a second, then stop, crank for a second then stop and again ... what this will do is not taper the cranking fuel off as much as just holding the key, and if this gets it started sooner its a good indicator that you need more cranking pulse width in that colder area.
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Ecotec cold starting issue on E85
To the guys here that have gone from 98 to e85 is it only the first stage crank base that you have turned up to get the car to fire up from stone cold on e85?
Does the 2nd stage have to be turned up at all. I have done a heap of searching on here looking through posts etc. Have tried turning up the first stage crank table when under 40 deg c temp and playing with the minimum crank bpw value also. No matter what i try takes me minimum 15 sec or so for car to start from stone cold

There is an xdf and bin available for a 5.3L Tahoe. Poke that into Tunerpro and have a look at the flex fuel tables. Probably a reasonable starting point.
