1994/96 z28 project.......e85 conversion

Post by craneguy65 »

Hello all
I am new to all of this and hopeing for some guidance. I am useing a dnonar 1994 z28 to build up a 1996 z28. I am useing the cpu from the 94 because the software is the cheapest. The 94 was a 6 speed and the 96 was auto. I am going throughthe engine but mo major upgrades. Researching useing thinner head gaskets to bring compresion ratio up. With all this done I would like to dyno and see what I get then progressivly upgrade power adders and document. Right now I am @ 230rwhp. If any body has any suggestions warnings words of hope let me know lol. Thanks

I'd suggest you locate a '165 ecu and use our ose12p, available from here: https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... f=27&t=356

If you cant find a '165 locally (ive heard they have gotten a bit thin on the ground there), then you could import a delco 808 from via ebay.com.au where they can usually be found and reasonably cheaply.

Its very well featured, and comes with E85 definitions. The USA '165 is the same as our '808 which most people here will be using, but it has been verified to run correctly on the '165. The '165 has high speed comms from factory, so you will not need a comms mod. Other than that, its pretty much the same thing, so everything you read about the '808 can be applied. I suggest grabbing the package, grabbing tunerpro5 and load up the definitions and have a bit of a play.

Several members of these forums are running E85 with this software with good success.

Also, since you have posted the same question in 3 places, Im going to kill the other 2 threads as site housekeeping.

Also, if you have all the gear and just want to tune the ecu you have, then it might help to post up a bit more info about what software you are tuning with, and perhaps we can give some more general help.

Good luck!
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

Are you using the LT1 engine from the Z28?

In which case you should have the LT1 specific PCM ( # 16188051 ) which has internal flash memory and has to be programmed directly into the memory
with a program like Tuner Cat

Are you using a 94+ auto in which case you need the auto PCM program to operate the electronic (4L60E ) trans

There are simple mods that can be done ( resistors on inputs ) to run the '96-'97 OBDII PCM on the earlier OBDI PCM 94/95 engines as the harness connectors
are the same ;the '96 just having extra wires
