Hotrod convertion

Post by cvan1939 »

I have a hot rod with a 350 chev and turbo350 that I have put a TPI unit off a 86 Camaro that I got from eBay the car runs and drives but runs rich at idle and over heats when at highway speed and towing the system came without a knock sensor and electronic spark control it doesn't have a speed sensor I was quoted $750 to tune it winch is out of my price range. I have been reading on here for awhile and trying to decide what option would be best convert the 1227165 ecu or get a commodore ECU and go form there

Go to the 165 and you'll get a lot of support from here by running the 12P code base with a MAP sensor fitted. There's also a short case version of the 165 if that helps. Can't remember the number but a quick google should bring it up.

Would love to get rid of the ugly map I don't have a burner or an eraser and would like to do live tuning so was thinking of a nvram and 12p I am very new to this but want to learn I am not sure what you mean by short case 165
So any advise would be much appreciated I was thinking that with the nvram and 12p and Tunpro I mite get somewhere The system doesn't have erg. Not sure if the over heating is due to timing or leaning out under load

A tune that's not suited will have heating problems. 12P dkes have a feature to tune without a MAP sensor but I can't comment on how well it work's. It would be well worth fitting a remote MAP sensor or a neater one from another model.

The 1227165 is a big ECU compared to our 808. There is a version in the states of the 165 that's a smaller size like ours if you dont have the room for the 165.

165 size is not a problem the ECU and maf relay and turnoff relay and. fuel relay are all mounted under the passenger seat Am I heading in the right direction with the nvram.

Well you will save room with no MAF. Yes the NVRAM is the go but a burner would be handy as they can need re programming at times but maybe you know somebody with one.
You will also want a USB interface and also a wideband sensor for tuning.

There's some on here in the for sale section along with our NVRAMs I highly recommend our gear. It will plug into a OBD2 style connector you can wire on in very easily.

You should not need the usb interface as the 165 already has high speed ALDL
