yip same ecu just has differnet size chip on the memcal compared to vn and vp memcals and different tune for vr and vs

Re: 1227808 Vs 16206305
left vn/vp ecm, right vr auto pcm.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: 1227808 Vs 16206305
OK I drive VP v6 auto, I have a 16206305 coming in the mail (should be here in a few days) and I already have a couple of NVRAM memcals that are suitable size for use.
Do I need to do anything to the VP loom when I plug in the new ECU so that I can data log the info? Rearrange the wires from the ALDL plug?
I read a few threads that skirt around the issue but don't quite answer my queries.

Re: 1227808 Vs 16206305
There's enough difference between this one and the first picture of this thread to have me doubt that it is.
It has BLJX on the cover which is a VS V8 manual ECU but it came with ATJR memcal (89 VN version). I'm hoping that I haven't been sold a VN ecu in a VS cover.
Cheers
Eddie

Re: 1227808 Vs 16206305
Definitely a 305
Has the extra coms chip that the 808 is missing and two screws through to the heat sync, 808 has 3 screws
Yes your right the one shown on the right in the first post is not a 16206305 its a 16183082

Oops! stupid me thought the reference was to the image at the top of the page, not realising I was on page 2 of the thread.kojab wrote:Definitely a 305

I retract the statement regarding the wrong ECM being in the image but I'll leave the post here because I've added a bit of extra info anyway.
Actually the one on the right isn't a 16183082. The 16183082 has the smaller size case like the one on the left.
In the first thread image the one on the left [in the image at the top of THIS page] is a 1227808 which was used in all VN and VP models (didn't matter what engine or transmission) as well as a number of other 4 cylinder cars, but it can't deliver fast data logging speed to real time tune. They aren't totally useless though, you can still use them as 'runner' ECMs after tuning, keep your high speed data ECM out of harms way.
The one on the right is a large case 16176424 PCM which was the type fitted to most VR auto models and carried on to early VS auto cars, both V6 and V8. Some were fitted with a 16195699 PCM (including police tuned cars)
The 16183082 has a small case (looks very much like a 1227808) except it has one extra (U2) chip I have highlighted which the '808 doesn't have soldered on it's board.
Delco 16183082 ECU
It was used on all VR manual transmission cars fitted with both V6 and V8 engines. From what I have found, the 16206305 (small case) was a redesign of the 16183082 and was used in place of the '082 in some VR models then it carried on over to early VS V8 manual models. VS V6 manual models used another new design.
For high speed data logging you can use either 16206305 or 16183082 ECUs.
I should also mention while you are poking around the wreckers, watch out for any small case ECMs that have these labels on them... Often they can have the 16206305 board in them even if they are in a car with an auto trans!

The Commodore memcal part numbers known to be used in these two ECUs are as follows:
16183082/16206305
V6 Manual
(VR) - BFFH, BKCY, BLCD
V8 manual
(VR) - BFFM, BFPM, BJKS, BKBK, BLCF, BPHZ
V8 manual
(VS) - BLJX, BMZL, BMZN, BWFW,
One other trick to keep in mind with Delco is the color of the sockets the EFI wiring loom plugs into. If you are running a black socket it will swap over with any other black socket ECM. Note the larger case model 16176424 has a pale blue socket... thats the warning sign! Only replace with the same color socket!
Hope that sheds a bit of light on things.

Re: 1227808 Vs 16206305
Good info
Especially the bit about checking all ECMs that may (or may not) be an '808, lots of hidden gems at the wreckers

A lot has happened since 2009 when this thread was started, the humble '808 is used for high speed logging and RT tuning using 12P (http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=356). We have add on boards for them providing a USB connection that gives 8192 baud logging and tuning use NVRAM hardware.Poida wrote:In the first thread image[/color] the one on the left [in the image at the top of THIS page] is a 1227808 which was used in all VN and VP models (didn't matter what engine or transmission) as well as a number of other 4 cylinder cars, but it can't deliver fast data logging speed to real time tune. The '424 PCM was used on all VR auto models but was not used on any VS V6 models, the ecotec uses a different sequential PCM. It was used on series 1 and 2 VS V8 auto models though. Regarding those ones with "remanufactured" labels, I've found a couple of VN/VPs with '305s in them, perhaps a service replacement?VL400 wrote:Good infoEspecially the bit about checking all ECMs that may (or may not) be an '808, lots of hidden gems at the wreckers
