P12: MY 04-07 (P12a=1MB - I believe P12b/2MB is more a myth, I've seen documentation for them but haven't seen one in the wild and I know another forum member mentioned the same.)

For P04/05, I'm not as familiar as the others on here with these PCMs.
I assure you the 2mb P12b is no myth, I have one!
It's how I was able to make PcmHammer P12b compatible ...

So you are telling me that there is an overlap of years where the vehicle COULD have EITHER a P10 OR a P12? (04-05)

The P04 is a FWD (3100, 3400, 3800) V6 PCM up to 2005 or so,
while the P05 seems to be for later years (3500, 3800, 3900, and a few Turbo I4 Ecotecs)

Arrrg, I hate this dang brain dead phpBB (version) and it's use of proportional fonts inside code tags, that's what code tags are for!!! To use monospaced font and do no formatting!

Copy paste it to a monospaced editor (like notepad.exe), it'll align right up and make it easy to read again!

Does anyone know much about service number 16227797? Is this the 256Kb P04? Is it flashable or is that a memcal under the access panel?

Google CLAIMS it is from a 1997 3100 or 3800 car such as a Chevy Malibu, Camaro, or Pontiac GP.
There is a 1997 Malibu in the JY near me and I was planning on pulling the PCM from it.
IF it is the SAME, I'll let you know!
And it SHOULD be an early P04, therefore flashable.

No vehicle ever used both a P10 and P12 in the same year, BUT different vehicles used different PCMs in the same model year.

TrailBlazers/GMT360 and variants (GM badge engineered 7 different vehicles around this platform) used the P10 from 02-05 with the I6. P10 is exclusive to the 4.2L I6 LL8 engine and only to these 4 model years. In 06-07, the GMT360 platform used the P12. 08-09 was E67/T42. (V8s in this platform used different PCMs or ECM/TCMs depending on year too.)

Colorado/Canyon/GMT355 used the P12 from 04-07 then 08-12 used E67/T42. This platform utilized a few different I4/I5 engines (2.7/2.8/3.5/3.7) depending on year.

In other words:
P10= I6 only: 02-05
P12 = I4/5/6: 04-07 I4/5, 06-07 I6

P12 also was used in the H3, Cobalt SS S/C, Aerial Atom, and a few other low production vehicles.

I may be fairly new to this shit (only 5+ years), but I am smart enough to know that GM (any manufacture) never uses the same moniker for two different products! PERIOD!
They maybe similar, but not the same!

There is no such thing as a 256k P04!

If it's other then 512k it is not a P04!

No two different PCM's will have the exact same moniker!
They will be different, like P04a and P04b ... but not the same!
Examples: P01a (ls1a), P01b (ls1b), P12a, P12b ...

Just because TinyTuner has everything under the sun called a P04, does not mean they are all P04's!
And it does in fact include P08's as P04's so far that I have been able to prove!
And OsID's under Service Numbers that are incorrect ...

All it means is that TinyTuner is full of shit!
It may be a good reference, but not a bible of truth!

P04 is not a catch all for every unknown FWD v6 PCM!

Sorry for the rant, but I'm sick and tired of this P04 puke soup and not being allowed to clean it up because it must be right because that's what TinyTuner says!

Gampy, that is the old casing[It is also possible that that casing have an 512kb variant], How it is called nobody knows, 97-98 ls1 engines use similar casing and efi called it ls1A, while later ls1B.
Tine tuner is good only for tuning reference, even the cross compatible Os numbers are very shady. It can be sad it is good only for the most popular OS numbers, and by no means can be used for absolute guide.

Under that tiny cover is the knock module, no eeprom is found there.

Based on files structure and similarities, you can call it P04 family of pcms, 96-05, 256kb,512kb,1mb FWD v6 engine VPW based.

And that is the exact attitude that has lead to this confusing mess of P04 puke soup!

They are all different, all have different numbers, because they are not the same!

kur4o, I respect you, I respect your knowledge of this stuff, it is superior to mine.

However, continuing this fallacy only leads to further confusion!

Let's stop it!
