They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

PO1/411 ECM has a standard option (using HPtuners and efilive) to set knock sensor type and detection mode - cylinder or engine, 1 or 2 sensors. Has settings for when knock sensors are activated. LS1 sensor is single wire LS3 type are 2 wire - probably to stop electrical noise pickup on a wideband. After market cable adapters are available but use single wire - other wire to be bolted to ground. Then there knock sensor level tables....
Found this info on the web that shows repinning is also needed:
This is what efilive shows:
"The PCM can be used with two types of knock sensors, this parameter allows you to select which type of sensor is fitted to the engine.
The standard LS1 sensor is a resonant type, these sensors are connected like so -
Sensor Bank #1 - J1,pin51
Sensor Bank #2 - J1,pin11

If the engine is fitted with flat response sensors (like the LS2 uses), then the connections are like so -
Sensor Bank #1 GND - J1,pin49
Sensor Bank #1 Signal - J1,pin09

Sensor Bank #2 GND - J1,pin50
Sensor Bank #1 Signal - J1,pin10

Even though the setting exists in their software, from others reporting from testing, the pcm is unable to detect knock when using a sensor that the pcm wasn't designed to work with. It is a hardware issue, not a software issue. I am only retelling what I read when researching this several years ago. You are welcome to test and prove if the issue has been resolved.
