LY7 Variants and Compatibility - Cam sensors

Post by evilstuie »

Hey All,

I have a 2007 VE Commodore with LY7 motor (10H7T) with 5L40E that developed a knock from cyclinder 6.
I bought a 2009 VE Commodore LY7 motor from the wreckers to swap over that was factory LPG setup and came from a manual (10B1U)

I've swapped over the intake, knock sensors, coolant temp sensor, exhuast manifolds and installed it in the car, but now it sounds like none of the VVT crap is working.
Rattling noises at idle, loud at startup etc.

I pulled the cam sensors from the left bank and found the original motor had a different sized sensor, despite having the same total diameter, length and connector plug.
The original motor had 12608424 on the sensor, and the 10B1U motor had larger 12615371 sensors.

Does anyone know if the motors themselves are mechanically the same, and I can just swap over all the sensors and solenoids, or will this require a different ECU / Flash?

Cam phasers and hence cam sensors are different. It'll be running in dual spark mode, ignoring the cam sensors
2008-2009 was the changeover, 2006-2008 are all interchangeable, even vz 2007 engine is same as 06 VE.
