Hardware Documentation (EEC-V focused but others accepted)

Post by DWS »

I've been working on a bit of a side project to try to map out the EEC-V computers to their core board designs. Sometimes code from one computer works on another just fine as long as the required hardware is on the board. What I'm trying to do is document the actual board numbers as a step 1 process, then I can go through and identify what chips are for what features and slowly build up a database with this kind of info. Maybe some day be able to scan a bin file with what hardware it was orig intended for, and have a page produce all known hwid's that would fully function with that bin including the pinout. In the future maybe even be able to remap the memory addresses to make pinouts match up, but that's a much more future thing than right now.

Anyway, what I'm looking for is photos of the computer sticker (part number, hardware id, etc) and photos of the actual circuit board, mainly looking for the identifier markings, but overall photos (top + bottom) can be useful and listing the chip id's would be extra credit. There's quite a lot of hwid's, but my theory is there's a whole lot less board numbers and I'm pretty sure there's a pretty wide range of hwid's that can work with a given calibration file. I could be wrong, but doing some quick filtering and looking at things, I'm thinking there's roughly 40 distinct board designs, but each one can be in different cases which has a different physical board design but the code interchange fine. I've seen that even though the part number was exactly the same on both computers.

I'll update the post below this one for what hwid's I have covered and hopefully get a list of ones I'm looking for posted.

Case Designs
  • Cast AL - 6 bolts from top side, sometimes there's chips along the edge with black spring clips on them
  • Clam Shell - 2 bolts from side, middle is cast AL, top and bottom and tin. Almost all of these have the black spring clamps
  • Tin - Bottom side has 4 tabs to bend to open the case, bottom is glued to the bottom of the circuit board
Board Identifiers

Here's some examples for each case design and some notes about them.

Cast AL
  • PWB6548/ML2-9XX/XL3F-BC
  • 4769/MLC-2XX/F7LF-NB
  • 6562/MTC-32X/F81F-HC
Bottom edge of board (easiest ones)

Clam Shell
  • M602H/84D41506L07
  • 84D42180R01
  • M779G
  • M505G/84D44754M06/BM-AD
These are a bit of the wild west style. Markings generally along the edge of the board. The M number is somewhat random location. Sometimes there's an extra marking like BM-AD along the edge, not 100% sure if that has much of a role though.

Tin
  • M779G
  • 84D42180R01
  • M760D/84D43971L04/TC-AC
These ones seem to be a similar situation, somewhere on the top side there's generally an M number. The gap on the bottom side is where the 84D number is located (need a good light), and only recently started adding the extra identifier I've been seeing (TC-AC for example, but that seems to be on a lot of them so might not mean anything important).

Here's a list of unique hardware id's I've added so far. I've included the case type as sometimes there's more than one case type.
