Cluster Serial Number Not Displaying in EEPROM or ALDL Data

Post by modzer321 »

Hello,

I am currently attempting to retrieve the cluster serial number, but I am unable to log the data over ALDL as neither Tech2Win nor the Tech2 display this information. I have also dumped the EEPROM, but the serial number does not appear in the EEPROM data.

Could you provide any insights or suggestions on how to proceed with obtaining this information?

P.S. The serial number can be displayed by using the mode and set buttons while turning the key.

Thank you for your assistance.

if its not in the eeprom it might be in the CPU so you'll need to disassemble the cluster code to figure out where it gets it from and how and then use that knowledge to find a way to do it. You might need to put a clip across a chip on the back of the cluster and read some value that way, or modify the OS and flash that in adding a function to read it. Neither of these will be easy but I think that is what you are up against.

What year? Have you tried a 1a b4 request? Have you read the full eeprom? Possibly your reading the wrong size? I've done that before with ipc's

Not sure how your doing that, with 23 requests? Not sure if your low speed vpw or gm lan comm??
650 byte size sounds almost like a mode 23 request size I was getting reading bcm's and ipc's but it sounds too small for total eeprom read?

But it's not showing everything.. Not knowing what your doing or how your doing it and not getting any of my questions answered kinda ties my hand with any assistance I or anyone else could provide. Simply stating the serial number is not in the eeprom yet your only reading 650 bytes of it is not making sense. If your poking with mode 23 you might not even be reading the eeprom, but again, I have no idea what or how or what system or anything..
pin 2 vpw? pin 1 gmlan?
Have you pulled it apart and read the eeprom manually?
If your just using mode 23 I'd guess you need to read more addresses but I have noi dea what addresses to read?
I asked and did not get an answer, have you tried a 1a b4 request yet?? I can get the serial of most anything I've tried that's gm that way but I will quickly admit I have done almost nothing with pin 2 vpw in the last 3-4 years..

What model cluster are we talking about?
How have you dumped the eeprom?
Why do you need to find the serial number?

More information would help as ironduke said

Im assuming this is referring to a VT->VZ commodore cluster since those are ALDL based.
From memory.. they are a 512byte (0x200) eeprom size.
And also assuming he is reading the eeprom with an eeprom programmer, not via OBD.
