Police chip???
Urban legend has it that cop cars got some super duper chip with higher power output but we are told far and wide that that is not true. Only a bog standard chip was installed.
How is it then the the Memcal ID program lists such a chip? See pic.

Re: Police chip???
they were used with ecu/pcms that had RFI protection, that's it the program would be slightly altered for that, otherwise it's stock. Some had higher idle but that's it.

Re: Police chip???
Okay. My ex cop car has a sheet steel cover over (but separate from) the entire ECU box that is held in place by 3 large self tappers at the bottom. Is that part of the RFI protection or did all cars have them?

Re: Police chip???
they have a different part number so the production line can id them for assembly,
the only ones with any changes were VT 5.0, the idle in P/N was increased to help keep charge in the battery when idling with the roof lights going.
VR ones have the broadcast code in the memcal (PROMIDA, PROMIDB) changed too, this is to allow eprom identification with the factory scan tools.

Re: Police chip???
the plate was to help prevent theft in VP
Re: Police chip???
did think theft would have been a big enough issue to warrant extra protection, then again who doesn't want a cop chip!! lolz
Re: Police chip???
yeah the vp's are annoying, that steel plate pop riveted in from factory, got to get the drill out and drill them out, the throw the damn plate in the bin.

Re: Police chip???
All VP had the plate......was a right pain in the arse. But in saying that it wasnt uncommon to be able to remove a ECU from a VN in 25 sec's or even less if it was a loose one.
