FINNNAAAALLLLLLYYYYY!!!!
the ARP bolts definately look better finished than the stock ones ... so they should!
so i got stuck into it ... unfortunately i had other stuff i had to attend tonight so i only got to do 3 pots but its better than nothing.
it looks like the pistons are almost spot on at the top of the bores so they worked out perfect ... maximum compression
hopefully tomorrow get the rest in and the head on .... then i need to dummy up a rocker and see if i need different length pushrods .... fingers crossed i don't!
well im stuffed ... time for bed

Re: Race Motor #1
well i got all the pistons in last night and torqued the head down, then it was time to test the pushrods .... sure enough the almost 60 thou odd thats been removed from the head and block has changed my rocker geometery ... so it looks like im up for a new set of pushrods.....
there just ain't enough clearance there for my liking!
the pushrods i had in it before were on the limit of length before any maching was done.
so i got an adjustable pushrod off a mate and worked out i need 8.400-8.450in pushrods, as apposed to the old ones that were 8.700in .... so hopefully i can find somewhere that has them in stock locally today .... there are 8.408in which is clevland standard length .... so with any luck somewhere might stock them!

Re: Race Motor #1
well i got me new pushrods 8.408 in and i'm in business, rocker contact area through the valve travel is perfect now and theres a few millimeters gap between the rocker and the pivot!
so got the engine all together and shes ready to go in tomorrow!!
you'll notice the paint isn't done on the sump, thats tomorrows task before installing, also didn't re-paint the rest of the motor cause most bits washed up good so i didn't bother!

Re: Race Motor #1
got the last few bits i needed tonight ... so i finished off the fuel system....
i put a 3/8 fitting in the end of the fuel rail for increased capacity but it appears that it would not clear the firewall with a suitable bend so i did it this way instead!!
temporarily wired in some fuses and relay for the EFI .... still more to be hooked up but just the bare minimum to get it running tonight
similar in here ... still a work in progress but just got what i need to get it running
and here we have some videos of starting it and me fucking around checking stuff and tuning etc ....
http://www.oldholdens.com/images/cars/d ... 5-10-2009/
you'll note that it takes a while to start ... this is because i have the fuel pumps wired up to run when there is oil pressure so it needs me to press the primer button to get the pumps to go then i can press the starter button .... undecided what to do with it like that, might be a good safety feature or i might change it so it will work in park but then if it stalls in gear the pumps will stop ..... (thanks VL400 for the idea)
on a side note as well as getting this going tonight i have also tested $12P with camira ignition system ... so thats one more tick for VL400's efforts ... she seems to work ok in the gemini .... having said that its not driving around so still more testing needed!!
