I've got a mate that lives in Hamilton and he's got a Nissan patrol with a efi holden V8 fitted to it, he's getting shocking economy out of it and it's pretty hard to get it dyno'd down there, do you want to make a few $$$ ?

http://www.ppgearbox.com.au/page.asp?categoryid=8 this is the site comes up over 5 grand to have the gear set with 5th gear and then on top of it you'll have to buy a bearing and syncro kit which you can get from the us for about $250 i think last time i checked and then you have to put up with the whining sound the whole time you driving it around from the straight cut gears or you could put an entire t56 in it and a set of diff gears in it and make 6th usable and give a good launch with first and the added bonus of no whining from the gears for i think 6 grand not including diff gears

yeah the getrag are the weakest out of all the manual the commodores use from vn onward.

use a borg warner v6 T5.

and this > http://www.ppgearbox.com.au/page.asp?productid=34

Its pretty expensive but I worked out its a bit cheaper if not the same as a conversion minus all the work of a conversion.

I am guessing it to go on an ecotec? there is some minor mod to fit T5 to ecotec. hardest ones is sourcing or making the lower support brackets. I have a set of genuine ones you can copy from if you like?

Other than the brackets. The main seal plate needs the outer upper little bolts to be clearanced by about 1mm from the inner edge of the bell housing.

Flywheels are piece of cake to get and suit a variaty of balances for all the different V6s out there.

You can also by very cheaply a T6 heat treated alloy release fork and HD cable from dellows. They also sell the flywheels. I highly recommend there flywheels if you ever need one.

The awesome thing about T5 is they are regarded as one of the best shifting gear boxes out of the borg warner/ tremec family. I agree! as I can do 200ms gear changes on a close to 600k on it and worn 3/4 synco on just gear old. Even the full power miss shifts that blow the gear stick back. would of been 100s of times now. still keeps going like a champ. Never any metallic flakes in the old. comes out clean as new old.

I <3 my T5s ! :)

Also these will help strengthen it even more. In most cases, failure of a gearbox is normally a result of components deflecting under load like cluster support bearing moving and such, which in turn puts things out of tolerance while they are deflecting. Having more ridged support for the guts of the box will greatly improve reliability of the box. The case of the T5 is very strong already.

The weak point are the gears somewhat and support plate , 3/4 pressed metal keys.
