So is it a matter of doing the dissy mod, mounting the new ecu and running the cables and hooking it all up and then getting a tune?

What else is involved

You'll need to work out if your existing TPS and IAC are compatible - if they're not, swapping to a Pulsar or Commodore throttle body might be the simplest solution.
Also the same for your coolant and inlet temp sensors - if they're not compatible then swap them over. My Bosch L-Jet coolant sensor from the early 80's worked fine with the Delco, and I used the donor Pulsar's IAT sensor because L-Jets don't have one - it's part of their VAF.

You don't need a speed sensor, but you will want to wire the fuel pump relay up to the Delco. If your current setup doesn't use a MAP sensor, you'll need to connect one up. A "Check engine" lamp isn't essential, but would be worth wiring up.
Check that your current injectors are high impedance type, check that you've got good earths and power for the harness,
and get a tune set with your ignition reference angle, cylinder count and injector size.
And unless I'm forgetting something that should be enough to run the engine... and then it just needs tuning.

How will i know if they are compatible? Just as simple as if they plug in?

Little newby at this but wish to do it myself and learn instead of pay someone haha

Also, I don't need to tap an 02 sensor into my extractors do i?

if they plug in is a good start. maybe google the part number and/or check the resistance at the temperatures specified in the chart for the delco sensors.

an oxygen sensor will make getting good cruise economy easier. there's plenty of options for sensors. vs-vy v6 had a heated sensor. heated falcon sensors are also compatible, and the plug was the same from about '88 to '97. it was also easier to get for me. (had ea falcons laying about.) with the heated sensor, it can be put in the pipe a bit further downstream after everything is all joined together.

the bungs are cheap to buy, or an 18x1.5 nut works too. fitment is easy, just use a holesaw or step drill (love step drills.) to make a hole and weld the nut on. maybe fit 2 bungs, so you can keep your narrowband in and put in a wideband too. toyota hilux and landcruiser diff/gearbox check plugs are the right thread to plug the spare hole when you're done.
