Real Time Modded Factory Bins

Post by VL400 »

In order to get RT tuning over ALDL available for most models of Commodores as quickly as possible I have modified a selection of bins. These will work in conjunction with Antus' TP5 plugin and ADX and XDF files created by holden202T and Jayme. It is still early days but we are progressing and hope to have very well defined real-time tunable solutions in the near future.

These bins have been modified so that the ALDL mode 10 function that used to clear malfunctions is now used for writing to the calibration area. They otherwise operate identically to the factory version. With these mods you are able to use an NVRAM in place of the memcal and gain realtime tuning over the vehicle data bus.

The flashtool v1.24 or later supports all of these modified bins and can be downloaded from here. It allows reading and writing of the calibration. You can use your existing cal with these modified bins - however, you must be using a bin with the same broadcast code. For example, you have been using a factory CKUL bin and making changes to the calibration, you are able to use the flashtool to read the cal and then once the write modified CKUL bin below is written to an NVRAM, use the flashtool write cal function to copy in your tuned CKUL cal area.

Antus' plugin available here allows for realtime tuning using TunerPro 5. The instructions for installation can be found in that thread.

For each of these modified bins an ADX and XDF will be provided as we can work through them.

Important note on using the ADX files with the plugin on pre 1.2.0 versions only - When ALDL is used over the one wire vehicle bus it has echo. When setting up the ADX you normally set the echo flag in the configuration, however, if you are using Antus’ TP plugin for logging and tuning then the echo setting is done in the plugin configuration. You MUST then de-select the echo setting in the ADX configuration. Failure to do this will mean you will not be able to log any data.

Ok bit of info on adding wideband logging into these factory bins.

Now firstly im not sure if it will work for all of them as i've only done it with VS V6 Auto and VS V8 Auto but we can only try i suppose.

VS V6 Auto
So with this one there are a few options, originally i had it setup to have a map sensor input into the ALDL stream so i could make some map based spark maps and stuff like that from the stock ecotec tune, so on pin B12 as you can see below is injector voltage monitor line.

So what i've done is get another pin from a spare parts loom and use it in place of that pin, or alternatively put a lug on it so you can unplug it and plug your device into it .... and remember, the female lug goes on the injector end not the PCM end cause if it touches something metal it'll blow your main engine fuse under the bonnet!

the next step is to wire in your wideband sensor, in my case the innovate LC-1 has an analog output that i have calibrated to suit 0-5v which in AFR's is 7.35 - 22.39 and then this analog output wire connects into the B12 pin on the PCM. the only other change you need to do is to setup the logging side of it.

In scanner pro or tunerpro5 edit the adx and find under values the injector voltage monitor and set it up as follows:

Range low: 10
Range high: 20
Equation: (((22.39-7.35)/51)*x)+7.35

you can also set the data types and unit if you wish but its not mandatory.

Thats pretty much it, your ready to go for wideband input! Also you can use a map sensor input on B12 if you want and its only difference is you need to have 5v power from somwhere (i just tapped into TPS +5v) and then use:

Range low: 0
Range high: 100
Equation: (X * 1.88) + 10.354

Please note this will not give you map sensor functionality on an Ecotec it will only give you map sensor readings so you can gather useful information for conversions and such.

VS V8 Auto
As above its a fairly similar process however the V8 has the injector voltage monitor line on pin D7

This one is slightly different in that VS V8 Auto needs a mod applied to stop the wideband skewing the injector voltage compensation calc. The mod is to use the battery voltage (like many other code bases) in place of the injector feedback voltage for the compensation. Use the BWFU_mod_Wideband if you are going to connect a wideband.

Normally what i do is change the Current IAC Position gauge and put the wideband there then put the IAC position into the injector voltage line monitor box on the right side. if all goes to plan you should end up with something looking like this in your logs.

You can then make histograms with the wideband data and use these in wideband converter spreadsheet found HERE.

Dont forget too, these Adx's are pretty sweet for logging the Autos. thanks to VL400 they now have a transmission dash so you can see exactly what your trans is doing too :D

Well this is exciting!
I'd be happy to volunteer as a VT S/C vehicle tester.

Jeepers, Ive been busy for like 4 days & not checked whats going on & wow so much has happened!
I can put my hand up for vx s/c testing, but as most know it's a bit modified(manual & the rest).

VERY NICE WORK

mods don't matter, you put your cal into the stock tune and see if it all works then use the plugin and tuner pro to connect and see if you can do stuff realtime, see if you can break it etc.
