2012 TM Barina A16XER tuning

Post by Dazza92VP »

Any body know of any gear that can flash the Ecu in these things ours is coming out of warranty soon and it runs great but during summer it pings its head off unless run on the highest octane fuel we can find even then it still does it. Asked holden about this and they didn't do shit and it also has a pretty severe flat spot just off idle if you tap the throttle. Would love to have a play and sort this thing out but it's seems Holden and maybe a couple of other countries had the 1.6 us and everyone else had the 1.4 or 1.8 so not much gear out there that I can find

See what you can find out about the brand and model or service number or version of computer. There is probably an opel equivalent and tools listed against the opel version that will work.

I'll have a look tomorrow service stickers are on the bracket side I did have a look but didn't remove it. It looks to be the same as an opel astra "j" series don't know if that's the right model designation. Couldn't find much except this AutoScannerCANFlasher for Opel
But will check the numbers and see I suppose

Yeah Im getting hits on that one too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2dWxpyZPdA shows it reading an A16XER, and the filename contains E38 which is a type of GM PCM, but one which has many variants. E38s aint E38s. It seems opel-scanner.com is that genuine software. The computer is probably supported by several of the european flash tools, but reading and writing is only one part you also need something that can edit the file. The way the Aussies and New Zealanders work they say a computer is supported when you can read and write the computer and edit the vast majority of the paramaters in the pcms, so that is what we expect. The way the Europeans work is to support read and write and have a couple of the main tables with no scales on the axis and call it supported. You can go more or less fuel or spark and change the rev limit and thats about it (sometimes). And you might be dealing with 16 bit numbers with no scale such as 8523, and more fuel is 8730... but what does that mean? Dunno, just more or less. That is not to say all Euro software packages are that basic, but you need to check what your getting and set your expectations accordingly.

Your best bet will be googling to get a short list of products that support the opel astra J with X16XER or an E38 of an equivalent Opel and year. You might also find mention of EDC16, which is reasonably well supported by a bunch of Euro tools. Maybe through the OBD port, or maybe via BDM where you open the PCM and set it up in a jig to connect straight on to to the computer circuit board.

It actually looks like it's an E83 not E38....

The clone software allows read/write/checksum fix if you do it as Astra J, but yeah as Antus mentioned generally the mapping part of it is the hardest, but I'm 99% sure that HPTuners have E83's mapped out so there should be some good info with that as a base!

Yeah and 12642927 as the hardware service number (obviously) and 12645482 as the calibration part number.

I've sent hptuner support an email asking them if they have support for it so just a wait to hear back fingers crossed. This thing would love a little boost to if I hptuner does support may start collecting bits from an sri Cruze and fit the turbo and gear from that.
