Changing the VIN on a VE Commodore EBCM

Post by Gareth »

Soooo.... I realize that GM would have locked this down so as the wrong module isn't fitted to the wrong chassis but.... I need to find a solution to the cost issue of fitting new $600+ modules to 10+ year old cars that aren't worth much anymore.

I have MDI and TIS access but there is no way (that I can find) to alter the VIN with them in either the EBCM or SDM (ABS & Airbags). Im sure I've read somewhere that it has been done but a search didn't show up anything.

Any ideas?
According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

No external eeprom on those. All inside the processor.

I thought so,

Well if you guys need to change the VIN, Its not to hard to do.

1. get a list of seeds and keys.
2. Work out the algorithm.
3. Do a VIN read and log it..
4. Change your code to write.

Same process as all the other modules in the vehicle.

you can make your own tool from an Arduino or use any tool that supports can ( speed is 500kbps )

read seed with 243 8 02 27 01 00 00 00 00 00
you will get a reply like 643 8 04 67 01 7D D1 00 00 00

7D D1 will be your seed.
