P01 '0411 12200411 v6 support

They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

I have been looking into this to see if an 0411 pcm is able to be used on a 6 cylinder and provide coil on plug.

i would love to hear peoples input on this if what i believe is correct or if there are more options ?

front what i can ascertain, if you use the S10 V6 calibration, you get all the options of custom OS for 2,3 bar map etc but your stuck with low res crank trigger which will only allow single coil firing (and needs dizzy).

if you move to the V8 calibration then your able to use a 24 x crank trigger and get high res but then you are stuck with V8 crankshaft degrees firing locations.

is there any other configurations i've missed that would allow multi coils on a 6 cylinder ?

im aware you'd need a cam sync and some form of crank mounted chopper wheel to make it all work, but then your left with needing to hack the code to make it workable on another type of trigger configuation as the only solution for a 6 ?

Those tunes look like they are for the P04 pcm which is the v6 pcm, not the P01 ('0411). Theres some other P04 bins here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2346&start=10
Does anyone with a BDM for reading and writing want to try writing one to an '0411 and see if it boots and communicates on the VPW bus?

regardless of this side of it though the main question is does it work any other way crank/cam trigger wise, while yes you can run them on a coil pack etc thats not what i'd like to do, the whole idea of it is to get the multi coils and all the 0411 pcm benefits.

On the 4.3 V6 only a low res was available. No multi coil from factory. Doesn't fully answer your question I know but no OEM option was available at least.

yeah that's what i understand too, but hoping there might be some other option .... but have a feeling its not going to be the case without code mods and/or hardware mods.

Im not sure what the filename is referring too (its not the OSID like most are named) but I can confirm the file is good on an '0411. I wrote it to my bench setup and it boots up and runs fine. Then I read it back with PCM Hammer. When we support OS updates this looks like it'll be usable if you can build a V6 car around it with the right sensors. 12212156 was used on V8 Chevrolets of the same era as well.

There is an XDF available. Im not sure if you can use it on the v6 just the same, but we should investigate this.

The ST platform flags table in the system segment contain quite different flags compared to the other platforms in the bin, and this bin is set configured to use the ST row. One of the flags is Crank Low Res = 1. This might be necessary to facilitate 6 cyl, but if anyone has a high res trigger system on a v6 the flag here could be changed and see what happens?

Ive also tracked down the #cylinders setting. Its at file offset 0x8027. This is early in the calibration block, and the operating systems are an evolution so I suspect that the same setting may exist in other tunes not known for V6 support. Certainly the same offset contains "8" in Aussie v8 '5074 bins. Maybe pretty much any bin could be swapped to distributor 6 cylinder with (or without?) low res crank trigger platform option and cylinder count changed?
