202 turbo
Re: 202 turbo
If the dizzy is locked and the timing moves when you rev it then the ecu must be controlling the timing . iwould think that a good tuner would be able to tell you what the problem is.Where do you live.
Re: 202 turbo
mmm well that is strange, but if that being the case wouldnt the timing be way out when i run the car on the standard ecu and memcal for didnt someone say the v6 run at 66 dtdc? i forgot to mention i still run the vaccume advance so maybe that part is not locked but the rest is and when it reaches positive pressure it settles back to 10 btdc. i live around the gold coast area on the qld/nsw border

Re: 202 turbo
it might be worth having a read of this thread:

it certainly sounds to me like you have a dodgy tune .... if you are able to go without your tunes for a week or so and are keen to mail your memcals i'd be happy to have a look at them and see if i can make head or tail of them and might even be able to post back a tune.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

You cant keep the vac adv connected or your base timing will be innaccurate.
I live at Labrador , if you want PM me your phone no. and ill give you a time we can meet up to get it sorted .

Re: 202 turbo
thanks heaps for the offer to sort this out holden202 and i have read that thread you did on converting to delco more times then i can remember and it was very informative thanks
it seems vn5000 lives pretty close to me and is willing to check my crude setup out and hopefully find what is going on, and with the vaccume advance i know it ups the base timing at idle and cruse but wouldnt it settle back to the base of 10btdc when the vaccume disappears? as it runs alot smoother and is more responsive with it connected.

Re: 202 turbo
It will run smoother with ECU control once its tuned properly and the dizzy is totally locked. The ECU can do a much better job adjusting spark advance across the entire load and RPM range than the dizzy can.
Re: 202 turbo
yeah im hoping to get it sorted next week as vn5000 is going to take a look at it to see whats going on, im at the end of my tether with it as its over my head now,
also with the spark plugs would anyone know what i should be running now it has been charged? im still using the standard plugs which are ngk bpr6efs 13
cheers, cheyne

Re: 202 turbo
i'd say if its got the vacuum advance connected aswell as the ecm controlling it , its probably getting too much spark at cruise!
have a look at the pics of my dizzy in that thread, the first two show what you need to do to properly lock all advance in the dizzy, then you can remove the vacuum advance module all together.

Re: 202 turbo
yes it seems that my dizzy has not been locked completely and will need more work, luckly the ecu is not controlling the timing at the moment i hope as it may have been detrimental to the engine? im guessing something is wired wrong and vn5000 can sort this out as he is an auto elec.

Re: 202 turbo
easy way to see, remove the vacuum advance hose and then rev the motor with a timing light on it, it should move the timing mark if the ecm is controlling spark.
