Re: Cold Start Tuning Help
I have got a new O2 sensor that I can put in and try.
I fitted my old PCM with the Kalmaker tune I posted above and it starts and idles ok when cold. When hot it does idle rich on the Kalmaker tune (11.6).
Since it seems to be reasonable with the Kalmaker .bin I would think that the O2 sensor and fuel pressure would be ok.
I dont have Kalmaker software to try and adjust, thus trying to set up TP5.
I could try the TP tune with the idle VE turned off and just use the main VE table. Will attempt again tomorrow morning.

That kalmaker tune is not exactly what I expected.

Re: Cold Start Tuning Help
Thanks antus, just as well I did not pay anything for the Kalmaker .bin
Anyway the cold start this morning was much better since I was running of the main VE table instead of the Idle VE
. Still some tweaking to do but at least the heavy surging is gone. I have to look at the loading of the power steering as it wants to stall when turning from lock to lock whilst stationary
.
Thanks all for the assistance, I am sure I will be back with more questions.

Re: Cold Start Tuning Help
Hi all, still trying to fix up the cold start issues.
Does anyone have any tips on tuning for cold start? It idles not to bad when up to temperature, has the occasional stumble.
When up to temperature it drives quite well, I still have a heap of spark retard enabled as I have not fixed the advance tables. I am trying to sort out the cold start idle first.
Attached are logs for cold start and hot idle. If anyone can pass on some tips it would be appreciated.
Would hate to be doing this for a living, I think I would be going hungry

Re: Cold Start Tuning Help
Try this ,std v111 blcf cal, inj/rate 383 / 775 blue tops dont change anything and get a log.If the af are out then adjust the inj /rate only till good idle then get another log. :thumbup:Make sure you flash it in as a cal .

Re: Cold Start Tuning Help
Hi vn5000,
attached are some logs with the .bin you supplied.
I adjusted the idle setpoint to 900rpm to save me having to re-adjust the throttle stop on the holley throttle body. Also I had to reduce the injector rate to a low value to get it idle well (12.5:1 approx).
The cold start did not hunt even though it was to rich and idling at 750rpm. Looks promising.
I await your comments.
Thanks.

Re: Cold Start Tuning Help
Looks like a good starting point.
Before you go any further check that when your o2 sensor is reading 0.5 v or your in closed loop your wideband is reading around 14.7.The o2 and wideband reading dont match properly.Have you calibrated the wideband properly?
Then adjust you ve to suit wide band readings and commanded a/f.
Dont worry about est /esc or other settings until after main ve table is good (unless it pings).

Re: Cold Start Tuning Help
Since I have the injector rate so low, am I better off increasing it to say 0.14 and start adjusting the VE tables.
If I leave it the way I left it in the .bin above I think it will be too lean when I start to drive.

Re: Cold Start Tuning Help
Not sure why your inj rate needsto be so low.But try driving it under light load and see how it runs as is while logging,The ve table is spread about right ie min ve 30 max ve 85 .If you raise the inj rate to 1.4 you would have to halve the ve table and you would lose resolution.
