Re: Idle too rich.
Yea wideband probably won't be accurate at idle.set the fuel and timing at idle by ear till it idles the best or another trick is to connect a non dampened vacuum gauge into plenum and adjust fuel for highest average vacuum reading at idle.my guess would be about 28-35 degrees timing at idle and just rich enough to make it idle the best.wideband will be ok for setting cruise and wot afrs.the trick with the advance is to have smooth transistions no spikes so when it goes from idle advance to main map light load you have similar values and you will just have to experiment at light load to see how much advance and fuel it likes.with a cam like that its hard to get rid of all the surging at light load but you can minimize it.not the easiest of cams to start to tune .ive tuned a 355 stroker with a stage 3 crane with the delco got it to idle nice around 800-900 revs.cheers Darren.

Re: Idle too rich.
if your worried about having your original tune as a backup simply get vl400's realtime nvram kit and usb/serial interface for tuning, then this way that chip you have in the car now sits in the glove box as a backup.
that said you can upload any tune you make from changes to the computer if you find the last changes failed etc.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Idle too rich.
just took the car out for a squirt today.
It seems that the colder the air temp, the worse the idle.
Transition from idle to light load is pretty good until the idle starts to drop off and chug a bit of black stuff.
WOT and slightly damp roads arn't a good mix

Re: Idle too rich.
ok in the first picture there is no blue cover on the memcal and it looks like the eprom has no sticker over the window .... i'd suggest putting a sticker over it before it gets corrupted.
without a sticker on the top of it or anything like that i think the only way your going to find out what the tune is on it would be to get it read in an eprom programmer and go from there.
i was expecting to see a sticker over the window on the eprom and something meaningful written on it as to the tune etc

Re: Idle too rich.
So is there something I can plug into that 12 pin plug (with 5 being used) that I can read/ save my current data with?
I've read through the getting started guide and there seems to be a million different options available and none of them to me look overly easy or make much sense.

no, for a few reasons. the 808 ecu doesnt have bi directional comms so you cant request a bin off it. also there is no guarantee that the current tune even supports bi direcitonal comms. the only way you will find out what is on it is to put it in an eprom programmer like the gq-4x and read the chip.

Re: Idle too rich.
if you don't have a programmer or arn't keen to buy one then you can post your memcal to one of us (or drive it if someone is local to you) and it can be read and returned to you.

This option seems to be the best.Holden202 wrote:if your worried about having your original tune as a backup simply get vl400's realtime nvram kit and usb/serial interface for tuning, then this way that chip you have in the car now sits in the glove box as a backup.

The bit that I'm having trouble getting my head around is how I can get the data off my current chip, make changes, and still have the original as backup. Do I need to buy another chip and a burner, and a reader etc? or is it all in the Kit.

Re: Idle too rich.
Yes, to keep yours as a backup then you will need to get another memcal. There are a few options, one would be to use the NVRAM (even without a bin like 12P that allows tuning over ALDL) and another buy a memcal from a wrecker and reprogram that using a UV eraser and programmer.
The first thing will be to get a read of the current memcal, work out what code it is running and then can sort out the options. If you don't have a programmer to read the memcal, where are you located?
