Latest update - TCC is all working from the ECU. Found out that the ECU was detecting a manual transmission so had to connect the P/N switch back to the ECU.. now detects auto. Would that have much too do with bad fuel economy?? The TCC is barley noticeable when coming on and off so I'm pretty happy with that. Now on to the WB.

it certainly wouldn't help the situation.

how tall are your wheels? the hilux diff ratios are designed for a 4 banger, so the v6 revs more than it would for the equivalent speed in say a commodore (obviously being a 4wd the higher ratio can be advantageous due to the greater torque available).
Typically the higher an engine revs the greater the losses due to friction are, so even though the motor is only lightly loaded it will consume more fuel due to friction.

I ran a full tank with the current settings and it seems to be running a lot richer with the ecu now set to automatic so no great savings in fuel yet. Pretty much the same it was with economy wise maybe a few km's less. So until i hook up a WB and sort out the mixtures i will have to put up with it. But the car seems to be performing better with everything communicating back to the ecu properly.

Update - I am still playing around with the tcc settings trying to get the right match for the lux. I haven't noticed any great saving in fuel yet. if anything less economy with the tcc set lower. I have now bumped it up more to the setting on the sv3800 to see how that goes. Still saving the penny's for the WB hopefully after the Christmas silly season i will have the spare cash for more toys, lol.

Does anyone have a SV3800 tune for Nvram ? as my lux seemed to run better with that memcal before. Also i am running NGK plugs with a 1.5mm gap is this the best gap to run for economy? before when i had it on gas i ran 1.1 and NGK gas plugs. Im just wondering if i ran a gap of 1.3mm would it help with economy ??

Another Question.... How hard is it to put a later model trans behind an S1 Vn? say out of a VT VX - is there much involved? BCM etc?

the spark plug gap wont make any noticable difference to economy. Provided there is no missfire, you should be fine. Open it up too much and it will at high load.

to run a later trans you will need to change to a later ecu that can control it. The vn trans is hydrolic, the later ones are ecu controlled. It would be major, with a new ecu, new nvram and probably going map to maf. I dont think it would be worth it.

The biggest fuel issue would likely be as charlay mentioned - your diff ratio. 4.875 is very high, and your v6 will have more frictional losses than a 4 cyl would have. Im not an expert on messing with autos, but I would consider putting someting more like a 3.5:1 ratio diff in there, and adjusting the PPK in the ecu to match. That would use the extra torque your v6 can create while keeping the revs down and with less loss.

Perhaps others with more direct experience with similar projects to yours can comment on the pros an cons of a ratio like that.
