Yeh it is one of the problems, the alloy fork wears down and they don't push the hub over the dog teeth enough.
I don't know how many mining landcruiser boxes I've had to build with no forks left due to people using the gear stick as a resting post while driving around up there.

one of my pet hates is people who hold the shifter all the time.
I questioned this and apparently most ricers do that for styling, it looks cooler when driving some guy said lol.
yeah its cool having to replace transmissions all the time

Nah I don't think it will shift quicker but it will help select the gear that you want.
So many times at Phillip Island coming into Honda corner changing down to 2nd and then go to grab 3rd coming out and grab 5th instead.
The same for MG corner coming out in 2nd and do the short shift for 3rd and grab 5th.
Its always that 2-3 change that kills a lap for me.

Haha yeh I know what you mean,I have done that myself a lot just in street driving.

I have done the same 4th to 5th when you wanted 3rd and boy by the time you fix it your lap time is blown big time.

the key to that is use your ball of your palm. I hardly ever miss 2-3 or 4-5 now. But it does crash the teeth as syncro fail to work shifting that fast when you really want to shift fast.
from the outside my car sounds like an auto lol

Just the stocky shifter modded as a short shifter ie the bar that connects the shift lever to the shift shaft is in a different position.
I originally had another stock shifter with the lever extended which was comfy and a better reach,but the halfmoon bush that sits under the shift shaft chopped out really easy.
It felt like driving a big manual bus.I assume it was semi knackered on my first outing but it was a mess when I pulled it apart.
The short shifter is good but you really have to be positive and the left palm cops a hiding even after 6-8 laps.
Might have to swap hands and give Mrs Palmer some exercise before the season begins....lol
Might have a break this half year as im doing some homework on house hunting that suits my lifestyle(not that I have a lifestyle) but with the mrs passing away nearly
a couple of years ago and with less than a couple of years of work left where i am,now is the time to use the banks money to get what I want and stay put,plus I need life change
as I hit the big 5 0h in a couple of weeks time.
A single car garage with a narrow driveway and tripping over so much crap,its like the castle....I have to move the commodore to get the Monaro out to get to the motorbike and then
put it all back.Most times the tandem is in the front yard as well...so its time to be in debt again but live better.....hopefully

I started having a lot of trouble with my 2-3 shift on my old T5. In the end I found it was a combination of the stock shifter but also getting lazy with the clutch. Sometimes I wasn't depressing the clutch fully which screwed the shifts. Now if I'm smashing gears I nail the clutch pedal and release it instantly, the trick is to get the shift timed properly and found it easier with a short shifter which reduced the throw by about 50% from the stock shifter. It does however require a bit more physical effort

Sounds good monaro308, where in melbourne are you atm ? Be good to catch up and take our monaro's out for a spin ! Stock commodore shifters are shit with that extra linkage, I'm running a 90's camaro hurst shifter on my t-56 ( don't know if it will work on a commodore ) but it feels a lot better than my mates std shifter in his t-56 commodore
