I would probably agree with you, however I'm not the only user of this machine which means the missus and kids have installed random software which has been removed at a later stage.

With time things tend to slow down, most noticeable is boot up time.

Occasionally I'll do some house keeping, cleaning out temp files, inbox etc. This improves the machines performance somewhat.

I use Avast antivirus, malwarebytes and Disk Cleanup. I also defrag the hard drive regularly.
