Antus, What value resistor didnyou run? Looks like the way I'll go. Solder in a resistor in placeof a globe and wire the LED indicator in parallel. Googled but found various different values and mostly American too.

I would use a bi-directional LED. That would be good value to show red and green if you can get those colours.

So it looks like the bulb is in parallel with the led, and no resistor. I am assuming this is an automotive led that takes 12v straight up and has a resistor built in, so this works as is.

This kind of led. I can find 12v led in bezel at jaycar but only smaller sizes. This ones in AU, theres plenty of options from china if your prepared to wait ages on post. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5pcs-8mm-5-1 ... 1853281501 It says 8mm but it doesnt look like it. Maybe its a smaller led in an 8mm bezel.

Perhaps you could walk in to a local auto electrician and see what they can sell you. They probably have the perfect item on hand.

I did actually go to the local auto elec they have set up alternators with no charge light before just a diode between an ignition source and the L terminal. They did think the LED woud be worth a try with no resistor as the later model one need only a small amount of current to start charging tbey thought.

The one we have fitted is very similair to the one Antus linked and has red and black wires potted into the fitting it's made for automotive use. It may well have a Resistor internal already which would be great if it did. This engine will be starting in the coming weeks so I think I will try it with just the LED in the circuit. Black to alternator and red to an ignition feed.
Rebuilt turbo LS1 and full car re wire in a VK commodore can't wait!
