GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra told analysts that the sale may not be GM's last. She said the company has work to do on some international businesses and could make a similar deal for them if they can't be fixed.
I doubt Australians will like what Holden has planned after October so I can see Australia being a bit of a train wreck for GM over the next 5 years. If that happens GM may just axe the Holden brand altogether.
I red another article which lumped Holden in with Opel so I'd think it's only a matter of time. The only thing Holden has going for it is the R&D and testing departments but who knows how much longer they will want/need it.
I'd suggest that the sales numbers of the new Commodore will dictate what GM does and how fast it happens....

If history is any guide I think the new Commodore will bomb out in Australia.
Holden has never really been able to sell FWD "family" cars (Camira, Apollo).
Holden has already tried a 4 cylinder Commodore and it was a marketing failure.
30% of Commodore sales have consistently been V8 variants. Ditching the V8 will loose a market share that will go to performance cars like the Mustang or WRX or to 4wds for people who want to tow.
GM will probably keep the proving grounds etc but to test Chinese made Buicks to make sure they don't break. They did the exact same thing with the Euro Commodores back in the mid to late 70s when they first come to Australia for testing and found they had to be redeveloped so they didn't break in 2.

I hate any car that has the blinker on the left side. When the blinker migrated to the left the car got fucked. I refuse to work on any of them because of the problems, complexity and cost of parts. Goodby Holden.

My Trans Am had it on the left and it never bothered me but it was just a small stalk like the old HK-HG Holdens had not a large thing like the later models had. The TA also had the dipper switch on the floor like the older Holdens and I could never understand how people had difficulty with it. When they combined the wipers, dip switch, indicators, washers into the one switch it became bulky, easily broken, and costlier to repair/replace.

floor dipper switch is the best thing ever, unless changing gears, we'll just have to watch the prices of our early holdens sky rocket,

Another sign of a crap car is a bolt to hold the wheel on. Not a stud and nut. Yep Holdens will now start appreciating. I will keep my VR BT1 SS?.
