Server can be useful but he's going to need a client to use with a 3rd party service.

If you do that though, keep in mind that you dont know who owns the other end of the vpn and your sending all your data straight too them. Even though many probably do, i'd recommend not doing internet banking and also not sending your email over a 3rd party vpn. Therefore i'd connect from a spare PC in the house so only that one pc is affected and not the modem.

Yeh depends what your trying to do and how much effort you want to goto, you could vlan segment a PC for the task, I use my modems server to access my home network externally, then Pia to browse the web and download.

I use GoldenFrog VYPRVPN. It's pretty decent and works well on my DDWRT modems.

DDWRT FTW. my 54GLs were solid with that. love it.
check out guacamole for remote access. not sure on the 2FA capability (yet)
