Can any P01 take any P01 OS?

I can't confirm any conflict, and it was hptuners files, not binaries, that supposedly sometimes had issues. They will write fine and not brick, just read some bugs can occur. Just sharing what I know, and what I've read.

HPTuner file or bin file, they are both binaries ... One is encrypted the other is not.

Writing firmware that has hardware differences is very possible because of how it's done, however re-reading that PCM or re-writing it with a proper firmware is where the issue would show.

This sometimes thing doesn't float with me ... I would like to to have one of these files that causes read errors or where it's written that there is a problem so it can be clarified.

I'm unsure of the differences between an hpt file and binary as I can't open a hpt to see it and it's not a 512kb file, so I suspect it's a partial binary or just the calibration portion. Not sure if any addresses changed between the early (ls1a) and late (ls1b) pcms. Early versions of hpt files were 512kb (3.xx),but later (4.xx) aren't. I also suspect it's not an issue in standalone swaps, but if you are using a 99 calibration in a 2002 vehicle it could cause problems.

Ignoring the semantics of a bin file vs binary file, it's definitely an encrypted file and most likely compressed in the process ...

I was able to successfully flash a 12202088 OS a 1999 P01 service number 09354896, hardware number 16220610. The truck started and is running fine so far.

It's a 1987 GMC C10 with a 5.3 and 4L60E from a 1999 truck.

Some of the P01s use AMD flash chips, and some of P01s use Intel flash chips.

I don't know whether all of the P01 OSes support both types of chips. If they do, then this doesn't matter.

If they don't, then I suspect that the only drawback you'd see is that things like VIN changes won't work, and after and OBD2 fault is triggered it won't be saved to flash and thus would be forgotten after a power cycle.

The 1mb files are from P59 PCMs, so I wouldn't expect them to mix and match with 512kb P01 PCMs.

Huh ??? P01 using an AMD chip, never heard or seen that, P59 yea, not P01.

Yeah I don't think any P01s have AMD flash. The early P01s ones have a different and less reliable intel flash chip, I think, and the P59s have intel and AMD.
