Re: My Delcoed Rides
WHAT A SAGA!!!!!
broke my vice trying to install a stud into the axle and then bent my mates 20 tonne press aswell ... so we looked into hole sizes and stuff and it appears the holes in the axle are .448 - .450inch .... and the knurled part of the stud was .468inch .... ... 18 thou interference fit ... bit cronic .... so we did some sussing out of what drills compared to the holes etc .... so we found a 15/32 drill and measuring it would mean a 8 thou interference fit ... much more like it
so after drilling all the holes out i finally got the studs in and started assembling the diff, and after cutting about 5mm off the end of one of the axles its finally all together!!! all i need to do now is to fill the diff with oil then thats the rear end all completed!!!
i must say the old 3 inch studs sure stick out alot
i'll have to be careful walking past the car not to graze my shins
also got my carby spacer
it pretty much worked out perfect, the metal base of the filter is pretty much perfect with the bonnet so that has achieved my objective!! cold air induction the way it should be
so if all goes well over the weekend i will get the mods to the gearbox crossmember done and then mod the exhaust, install the oil cooler for the tranny and make an accelerator bracket then put the wheels back on the deck and see if the wreckers special has any gears
..... i know it has park and neutral
geez hard to believe it might actually move this weekend....

WHAT IS THAT ABOMINATION! It looks like a "CARBURETOR". If you get rid of it that would be a good start!
Just joking. LOL. You should at least get plenty of cold air.

Re: My Delcoed Rides
yeah well i thought i read that 31 spliners were rated to 4000lb but their site says 7000lb ..... thats insane
but its good, means my humble little blown 202 wont ever break them

Re: My Delcoed Rides
well i didn't get as much done on the gem this weekend as i would have liked due to other stuff happening, it was good though to go to the ADRA show in newcastle, had a heap of the big boys there, doing displays and firing up their cars .... had 2 top fuel cars, a few alcohol cars, funny, doorslammers etc and a few top bikes .....
also helped my brother diagnose a blown head gasket on a car he was given!
in the end i did get a bit done, the auto is now supported by its new improved crossmember which has added clearance for the exhaust, and also got the oil cooler lines sorted out and run and i started working on the exhaust, really just need to get a 2.5 inch muffler and a support bracket then im done! and this one shouldn't scrap like the temporary one
i also thought i would show you all what im going from in the gemini and going to
the axle on the left is standard 23 spline that was in the gemini and on the right is the 31 spline beast!!
as you can see theres a fairluy substantial difference in diameter
