Finally got it running and of course it was an earth problem with the Crane unit. The lithium battery connections have screws which lock the wiring connectors on to the terminal posts and these were just a touch loose. The connection was good enough to turn the starter, run the fuel pumps and electric power steering pump but not good enough to provide main power to Crane. After a lot of searching the net for similar problems I found a post where the guy had exactly the same problem as me. The red light would come on with ignition but would not flash during cranking which meant it wasn’t receiving a signal. He had originally grounded the Crane to the chassis but when he grounded it to the battery it fixed the problem. Also I read that the Crane units are very sensitive to voltage.

Last night I replaced the GM module and still no spark and also ground out the Crane signal wire with the ignition on and it should have made the LED flicker but nothing and I thought that the Crane unit must be shot. Tonight I was going to reinstall the gm coil for a final test tonight but today I finally realised that the LED light coming on just means that it is receiving the ignition 12v and doesn’t mean that the unit is powering on and the fact that grounding the signal wire didn’t flicker the LED also meant the unit wasn’t powering on. I was checking the ground connector to the battery (not for the first time) but then realised that the battery terminal screw was a bit loose, not much though. I tightened this up cranked the starter and it fired straight up. What a relief that was.

I finally got the tray cut welded back in. Basically it involved plug welding the old spot welds which had been drilled out. And yes it was a freaking mission but looks much better than the checker plate that had been arc welded over the original rusted out panel. Lots of seam sealer and epoxy primer now required

There was a fair bit that I replaced but yes it could have been worse.

Hi all, haven’t posted anything for a while. Nothing on the Delco front but continuing with panel work so I can get this back on the road and track.The wheel tubs were trashed from years of farm abuse and there is around 3 hours hammer, dolly and shrinking in that tub to get it to point where it just required a skim coat of filler. Cheers

Cheers Gampy, unreal is the word alright. Yes you are correct you need to look at one section at a time. If you look at the whole thing it can become overwhelming.
