Would a VT dizzy work If I changed it out assuming that the dizzy would run through the new ignition module and then to the PCM?

Or you can't mix and match the different signals?

It will work fine, its the same signal for a reference pulse except an extra one for a home signal that would wire to the ign module. The ECU does not need this signal, you could use the cam out from the ign module to then run banked injection if its an auto.

What this module does is interpret crank/cam/dizzy signals, do some smoke and mirror stuff, output a reference pulse to the ECU (it has no idea anything is different as it still offers the same malfunction checks for EST and bypass faults). Then the EST (or dwell and timing) pulse from the ECU is read, more smoke stuff is done to the signal, and it gets sent to one or more coils in the correct order sequencing them. It can then also extend dwell times and overlap them by ignoring the EST dwell time. It also handles firing the coils on its own during cranking like the factory, so limp home still works. Basically totally compatible with a Delco ECU, but you are not limited to the trigger type or ignition output type (single coil, wasted spark, full sequential, dual spark plug per cyl). And you get full logging over USB to see what is happening.

I think I'm sold on this.

It is indeed auto although a manual conversion is on the cards at some stage.

also keep in mind Its just the bits inside the dizzy that you need, so vt sensor and rotor button can be bought and fitted to the earlier dizzy if you cant find a VT one for a reasonable price.

I don't suppose you know who supplies the sensor module for the distributor?

I thought Jaycar did em but can't find it on their website.

Another option running 8 coils is to use the rotor button as the sync signal. As its no longer distributing spark should be able to rig up a reluctor or hall sensor. The rotor button would need to get a bit of steel on the end if using a reluctor.

That sounds like an idea. Mount something through one of the original spark plug terminals maybe? Is the timing of this sensor critical?

With I converting to vt distributor you would still need to find the chopper ring thought it's not part of the button.

How does the module use the sync mark does it use it every time ir does it only use it for initial start up then just calculate off of the main pickup I'm just thinking about any possible movement in the cap
