crack in harmonic balancer, drive belt worn, sway bar and rubbers worn, springs, passenger side shock needs replacing and the list goes on....

You can always rely on a holden to give you something to do.

ha ha tell me about it...still working on the beast...in a nutshell....new bits breaking old bits...so replace one item and another older item fails as a result ...so far, I have an almost entirely new suspension...new king springs all round, shockies, tyres....as for the engine..suffice to say it is being replaced inside out...but all coming together..should be together shortly

The good thing is it's at that age where the parts that fail are made everywhere aftermarket so the prices are low .
And at least you can jump on the net and find help repairing it if needed.
I think of the money it saves compared to owning a new car with all the services and insurance.
Not to mention interest for those that use finance.

True.. ...still amazed that I can get original parts for a 15 yr old car...beats my old hyundai that took 3 months to find a spare part in korea ...cost wise is very reasonable and so far have only had to use a few aftermarket parts but eveything needed was available....back on the road again and it handles very differently.....smooth as...engine appears a bit more responsive but have been told that new sensors can take a while to reprogram original paras?...only have the transmission to service....otherwise all good

if you haven't done it already it might be a good idea to unplug the battery for a bit to reset the learning in the computer, probably wont be a big deal but might be worth it cause of the new o2's

Thanks Holden202, the battery was disconnected when the new sensors were installed…apart from a possible transmission issue (may just require a service), the beast is back on the road…both O2 sensors were in a bad way, the malfunctioning one (arrow), badly “carboned up”….both replaced
the spark plugs were also replaced for similar reasons….the right bank were in bad condition after just 20000k (these are GM replaced by Bosch), engine running very rich…mainly the right bank
the connecting wire to the left hand O2 sensor also appeared shorter, even though it is oem, held away from the hot transmission by a spare wire lying around (arrow) and also the new sensor in exhaust manifold (arrow)…

The new sensors installed, the engine was checkd using a carman scan tool and all found to be fully operational…

The memcal ID was finally extracted by the device…..found to be “ ID 1448”….still don’t know what it is as no-one has actually been able to remove the passenger kickplate, it was originally thought to be BYPR but not poassible as it has 4 wires to the o2 sensors…
The car is running a lot better, more responsive and easier to handle at speed …..strangely though, the transmission is a lot smoother since the ecu was reset??….

If you use the flashtool and do a 'get bin' you will get the first half of the EPROM ok. Can then compare it to the bins in the holden bin library and should be able to find out what you have. Getting the kick panel off is not too hard (it has a few clips and need to lift the sill panel a bit) and then just need a torx screwdriver to get to the memcal.
