Hi all, I have a no spark issue that is doing my head in. I am going through the Camira engine management ignition system checklist and it step 1A is to disconnect 4 terminal distributor connector and check for spark. Question 1, is this the EST connector to the HEI module, I can’t think what else it could be and Question 2 does the ECM not actually control whether or not a spark is created but only the timing of the spark? If so that would mean that the problem would have to be between the distributor pick up and the coil. I have already replaced the HEI module so ruled that out. Thanks and any input is appreciated.

Short answer, you should have spark even with the ECU unplugged.

Awesome, thanks Dylan. That helps narrow down the problem area.

Yes as long as the coil and ignition module have power you should have spark at 10 degrees

Thanks mate, I am going to put the stock Camira coil back in and bypass the FAST CDI. What I don’t understand is the CDI status LED lights up when the ignition is on so it’s getting 12v but the LED doesn’t blink during cranking which means it is not receiving a trigger signal. I got the distributor checked and it puts out voltage while spinning so it should be turning the module on. Strange.

Thanks Dylan & Delcowizzid for your help, it was the CDI unit. I put the stock Camira coil back in and got spark straight away. Now I have a different problem and I assume it is fuel related. I changed plugs and checked the timing and ok. It coughs and splutters on crank and then after a while fires but revs out like I have my foot to the floor so I switch it off. I checked the throttle cable and it doesn’t seem to be sticking.

If it revs too high that's signs of an air leak. If the throttle is closed it must be getting in somewhere else.

Thanks Antus, I rechecked the throttle spring and discovered it wasn’t always returning to the idle stop. I wd40’d the spring etc and it seems to have freed it up. I tried to get it running today but i ran the battery flat. It caught a couple of times but I am pretty sure it’s not getting a constant supply of fuel.
