Seeing as you will obviously tune to suit I would go with the 82 degree thermostat, I reckon the 91 degree ones still keep these engine to hot in my opinion.
Cheers

I'm thinking that too, especially regarding heat soak.
i noticed there is a timing offset vs coolant temp table that retards the timing once the cts is at about 96c. What is the point of that if that is the normal operating range when fitted with 91 stat?
Its as if the factory know they on the edge of cooking and fudged in some safe guards into the "normal" temp range.

yeah go 80, you'll loose a bee's dick in economy, but I don't think that's the main aim of this motor anyways

and what you gain in performance will be worth it!

Likewise, I too think with the standard thermostat things just get way to hot.

i think reducing the peak temps will be helpful, especially in a high comp engine.

What about for a V8 ? Mine constantly sitd on 94 no matter what the outside temp is and is running a genuine holden thermostat as i dont trust those crappy tridon ones. If i was to go lower what is a good brand for the holden V8 ? Im about to do the annual coolant change in the next few weeks so would be a good time to do it !

Yeh I give up using the tridon ones years ago as well.
The after market ones I use are gates or dayco and I've never had any probs with either.

I had problems with the triton ones as well in my 304 so ditched them and went over to a dayco one and still using it today fitted it 2 years ago if the a/c is on the temp sits dead on the thermostat temp of I think it was 77 degrees but if it's off it hangs around the 82 while driving from air flow over the radiator fans are set to 89 that's my 2 cents worth anyway

I had all the dramas of dayco and tridon ones. My 91 dayco used to run mid 70s lol. I tried anout 3 or 4 stats over 2 years with no avail, until I got a genuine one.
