Never had a problem with my nano at 4x. Did read a thread here where someone complained their nano would fail at 4x, but I've never experienced any.

4x can fail when in vehicle with any scantool.
This is more related to tester present messages and also if other modules in the car just randomly 'wakeup' which results in read/write failures. This is also why lots of GMs flash procedures ask to pull fuses for specific modules or vehicles.

So it might not be so much the scantool thats the issue, rather the vehicle.

Thanks Cincinnatus for refreshing my memory, it's getting pretty fuzzy these days.

lsxautumn stated a bench harness was used.

Awesome!

Was unaware the VCX Nano had issues with 4x, if you are having issues could you please provide a debug log, maybe it can be resolved ... Pretty sure it's a widely used VCI.

Thank you

I had issues trying to use the 4x on the nano when I read my truck's stock 0411 PCM so I didn't even bother enabling it this time. When I read the stock PCM I did read that one straight in the truck instead of a bench harness and my laptop sorta belongs in a museum. Gave it a try with 4x enabled on bench harness on the P59 again and was unable to get a read but it worked perfectly after disabling 4x. I'll copy and paste the debug log below but it could very well be me not having something set up right or my 25 dollar craigslist laptop I'm using here.

Hi lsxautumn,

Thank you for the log ...

It is failing to receive permission to upload the kernel ...
[11:23:28:070] TX: 6C 10 F0 34 00 10 00 FF 80 00
[11:23:30:103] ReadMsgs OBDError: ERR_BUFFER_EMPTY
I would have to first question the bench Power Supply quality, is it possible for you to use a good fully charged battery as the bench power supply for a test ??

The battery voltage is also bit low ... it is best to see at least 12.5v, especially on the Intel Flash chipped units.
[11:23:04:474] Battery Voltage is: 11.923
Also would you please verify your bench harness is wired like this Bench Harness Schematic

Thank you

The power supply in my bench harness is an ac to 12v dc plug I use for a variety of projects. I can verify the wiring schematic is correct. I dont have a spare battery lying around but I could hook my bench harness to my truck battery when it's warmer outside. This pcm was also an amd one if that makes any difference

Hiya,
Those walwarts can always be a problem due to incorrect voltage/amps, also noise on the line. Truly the only time those are viable is if you are trying a lower voltage than supply and have a regulator(s) and plenty of caps to clean up the voltage signal. As Gampy said, it really sounds like a problem.

Here's my benchy I hope to start selling soon. 24v supply, 2 13.7v regulators for up to ~6a, FEPS 18v if needed, super clean voltage. Gotta get some end plates machined yet :? Money and time :sad2:

Alot of the cheap 12v power supplies support less then 1amp, along with end up being quite noisey which can cause interference with communication with scantools.

Using something like whats posted above would be a very good option

I'd like to share the bin from my 04 Ion Redline donor PCM. This was an LSJ/5 speed P12 car. I wish I knew more about the XDF development process, I'd be down to help.
