yeah i originally bought the 80lb injectors because they wern't much dearer than the 60's and i'd heard they work well at low pulse widths aswell, and as i have a supercharger for "eventually" thats what i chose ..... 36% and thats on methanol! i did a few histograms of the log last night and the most it revved to was 5800rpm (6000rpm limiter) and that was just below 40% DC

i tell ya what though, shes economical i got 25ltrs of methanol thinking it wouldn't be enough and i only used about 10ltrs!

well i had to get my FB Ute out of the shed the other day to get at the camping gear, so i thought while i was at it i would put some mufflers on it.

so currently this thing has a VR V6 with custom made extractors into 2.25 inch pipes then into two stock v6 cats and then thats pretty much all i'd done to it.

so a while back my mate put a new exhaust on a car for a customer and he was just going to throw the old exhaust out, so i loaded it into the ute and brought it home

so this is basically a stock system off a VT monaro and as it happens the flanges are the same as on my cats and the pipes are 2.25 inch into the mufflers and 2 inch out so that was perfectly what i wanted!!

it was pretty much a matter of cutting the bends out of the pipes and a few small changes and on they went!

one day i will get some nice 45 degree bends to point the pipes down at the ground but i need to check with mr engineer to make sure i can do what i want before i get too carried away.

I also need to slightly modfiy the left one as its in the wrong spot, but it was the best i could do with the pipe i had ....

either way she sounds heaps nicer now and not as loud and annoying as it was before! I just need to get some bits and pieces to mount the rear supports for it!

Oh and i reckon its quieter than the Torana is and it passed the emissions noise test so this one should too!!

Update time for the gemini

Been slowly working on the list of things i needed to keep the andra tech inspector happy .... so now i have mostly sorted the kill switch one out. Still some tidying up to do but generally its done for the most part.

So the deal was i need to have a positive kill switch on the outside of the car clearly marked .... i didn't want to have it at the front where the battery was so i took the oportunity to relocate the battery to the boot.

You can see there is a relay there, this is temporary till the ones i wanted are available at the shop. The end plan is to have 2 x relays mounted in the boot with integral fuses and one will be for each pump, this way they are getting power right from the battery and the individual fuses means i can kill one pump if i want to (i do this regularly for flushing methanol/petrol etc).

Main thing i need to fix now is the old positive battery terminal in the engine bay, i need to run some new wire from the starter motor to the fuse blocks etc as they currently connect to the old battery terminal so its all in there hanging around for the time being.

Also want to get some nice wire or chain stuff to connect the kill switch to the car so i don't loose it.

yeah your not wrong, and nothing to do with the ute last camping trip was 2005 .... its been along time and im keen as to have the camping serenety again!!

this picture is dated saturday 10th december 2005 .... don't have that ute anymore nor do i have the boat (sold it the other week and updated from the 175kw S ute to the 190kw SV6 in 2006) oh but i have a heaps bigger tarp and that girl in the picture is now my wife

well the order has been placed for all the fuel lines, speedflow fittings/adaptors, oil cooler, replacable fuel filter and roll cage padding that is needed to get my tech inspection issues sorted out.... my mate reckons we should see the parts thursday/friday so i know what im doing this weekend
i can see the light at the end of the tunnel! will update once i get the stuff and start installing!

i was at my mates workshop the other day and a guy there was telling us about E85 fuel being available at a servo in newcastle, so i got the jerry can and off i went

got 10ltrs to try in the gemini and set about draining the fuel and modifying my tune to have E85 AFR's.

So the stoichiometric ratio of E85 is 9.765 so i used that to work out the difference between petrol, works out with petrol afrs converted back to lambda (petrol afr / 14.7) then allows you to multiply the afr table by 9.765 and that gives you an E85 afr table.

crank pulse widths and such are offset by 1.51 (as apposed to methanols 2.29).

anyways enough with the dribble about maths

heres a quick log i had running with E85 in the gemini, note that its always richer than commanded, this is correct as the methanol tune i had was too rich too.

so as you can see theres a bit too much AE but the wideband generally follows the ups and downs of the commanded afr!

haven't really done anything other than a bit of fucking around in the shed, but it seems to rev ok and runs pretty well so im happy.

im thinking this is going to be my new fuel for when i don't have methanol in the car, its higher octane than petrol so i wont need octane booster and its not as corrosive as methanol so its a good option, and its a shitload cheaper than 98 octane petrol!

Got all my fuel system parts needed, also got the oil cooler with screw on fittings and roll bar padding that meets SFI requirements.

not much change from $1200 there!!

got stuck into the boot first, got a fair bit done tonight, bit annoyed, the picture of the fuel filter showed in one side out the other but as you can see the one i got is different. Got it connected but i now need to get 90 degree fittings for it aswell as needing more fuel line, so i'll be ordering them shortly.

got the last few bits on order that i needed so hopefully get them tomorrow and might get it just about done over the weekend!

I got all the last bits and pieces i needed, and got the fuel filter all mounted and plumbed!

one day i'll have to buy some more fittings and do the bit between the tank and lift pump, i have enough of the braided hose left to do it!

once that was completed i decided to remove the fuel rail and sort out how this fitting was going to work in the end of it.

as it worked out the fuel rail was identical outside diameter to the steel weld on end i bought and i was thinking of turning down the fitting a bit to push it in then weld it on, but that would require a lathe and my mate wasn't going down to his workshop today and i couldn't wait so i thought stuff it, butt it up and weld it on that way. As it turned out it was pretty easy to weld on and looks like it was made for it, other than the fact you can see it was welded on!!

So i now have a -8 equiped fual rail!
With that all done i gave the rail & injectors a clean and put them back together, and as you can see in the below picture, with the new fitting on and the 90 degree speedflow hose end its bloody perfect! By the way the hose above it is the return line from the other end of the rail.

Next on the list is to get the boot lock sorted and get a few safety chains for the boot lock key and the kill switch key then im just about ready for tech inspection!
